The purpose of this study is to examine the relations among the ego-resilience, the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being in the elementary school students.
For the purpose of this study, the concrete research questions are as follows ; (1) is there a difference in the ego-resilience, the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being in the elementary school students by gender? (2) are there correlations among the ego-resilience, the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being? (3) do the ego-resilience effect on the subjective well-being? (4) do the self-efficacy effect on the subjective well-being?
In order to verify the four research questions, self-report instruments were administered to 275 students in fifth-sixth grade at 2 elementary schools in D metro city and 1 elementary school in K small and medium-sized city. 275 instruments were used for analysis data in this research. The Ego-resilience scale for elementary upper grades developed and validated by Jeon Hee Sook(2007) was used to measure ego-resilience. The self-efficacy scale developed by Cha Jung Eun(1997) and revised by Sim Gye Hwa(2004) was used to measure self-efficacy. The subjective well-being scale developed by Campbell et al(1976) and adapted by Han Jung Won(1997) was used to measure subjective well-being.
Data processing required technical statistics to review general trends in the ego-resilience, the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being. To see differences in the ego-resilience, the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being according to the gender independent sample t test was conducted, with correlation analysis as well to see whether the three variables are related. To see the effects of the ego-resilience and self-efficacy on the subjective well-being multiple regression analysis was conducted.
The summarized results of this study are as follows. First, ego-resilience depending on gender showed significant difference but the self-efficacy and the subjective well-being depending on gender showed no difference. Second, the ego-resilience and the subjective well-being showed significant positive correlation. Also, self-efficacy and the subjective well-being showed significant positive correlation. Ego-resilience and self-efficacy showed significant positive correlation. Third, based on the result of multiple regression analysis to verify the effect of the ego-resilience and self-efficacy on the subjective well-being, the ego-resilience and self-efficacy have effects on the subjective well-being.
The followings are the educational implications of research.
First, considering elementary school students's ego-resilience difference on the gender, it is necessary to develop the education program based on ego-resilience and help students to form subjective well-being.
Second, in this study, ego-resilience and self-efficacy have effects on the subjective well-being. So, it needs to consider the ego-resilience and the self-efficacy, when develop the education program based on the subjective well-being
