The purpose of this study is to analyze the influence of family, peer and stress factors affecting juvenile smoking, seek ways to decrease juvenile smoking, which cause negative effect on teenager's physical and mental health, and present suggestions for healthy life management.
Accordingly, in order to examine the factors affecting juvenile smoking surveys were conducted and completed by teenagers using 6 welfare centers, 2 youth centers, 1 youth shelter and teen reading room located in Gangnam-gu and 248 surveys were collected and analyzed.
To summarize the results of this study are as follows.
First, the youth smoking rate of the surveyed teenagers were higher than the youth smoking rate of 2010. Therefore, to decrease smoking active programs that put regional characteristics into consideration are in need.
Second, students with amicable relationship with his or her patron(family) have shown low smoking rate. Hence, programs that strengthen intimacy within family members should be positively applied in order to reduce juvenile smoking.
Third, regarding peer relationship, teenagers who associate themselves with local friends than schoolmates have shown higher smoking rate and students with high level of satisfaction in school life have low smoking rate. Thus, various programs to raise teenager’s school life satisfaction level should be implemented and devices such as creating entertainment culture which the students can enjoy within school boundaries is necessary to decrease the unregulated time outside school fences.
Fourth, it was found that the teenagers experience stress from sexual problems the most and the stress factor, which influences smoking the most, was school problems. Thus, a institutional supplementation in grade assessment should be made which will enable evaluation from more diverse aspects and in order to decrease stress occurring from school problems a program for quality improvement of teachers and programs to betterment of peer-relationship are found necessary.
Based on above results plans like below could be suggested to reduce juvenile smoking.
First, results suggest the influence of family, peer and stress on youth smoking and to reduce juvenile smoking continuous cause analysis should be done.
Second, application of programs that assist in forming healthy peer relationship is needed and political and institutional plans, which promote easier access to various leisure programs, should be sought.
Third, continuous observation and education should be done to prevent secondary problems related to juvenile delinquency of the smoking youth.
Fourth, to solve juvenile related problems social welfare approach(individual, group) and social welfare role(counselor, curer, defender, mediator, etc.) are demanded. Through this, fundamental plans to solve youth problems could be sought.
Lastly, social climate on education policy focused not on entrance to universities but on character development education is necessary. Therefore, youth will acquire upright character which will lead to a development of healthy society.
