The purpose of this study is to examine how the father's self-controlled and positive parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability by his self-differentiation are related, how the degree of the father's self-differentiation influences on his self-controlled and positive parenting attitudes, and whether the father's self-differentiation has the medium effects on the variable relations between the father's self-controlled and positive parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability .
To perform this study, the subjects of about 180 the children with disability and their fathers were collected from 20 special schools and special classes in Seoul and the Gyung-gi province.
The questionnaires for fathers designed to grasp the fathers' parenting attitudes and their present self-differentiation level were filled up by the fathers themselves, and the questionnaires designed to examine the social maturity degree of the children with disability were done by their homeroom teachers themselves to secure the objectivity of the data. 153 questionnaires were collected out of 180 ones distributed, a recovery rate of around 22 percent. 128 questionnaires except 25 inadequate ones were finally analyzed.
t-test and ANOVA were conducted to examine the differences between the basic statistical methods and each factor, Pearson correlation analysis were done to test the correlation between the factors and the degree of the relations, and the parameter of the variations procedure through a rare combination of analysis suggested by Baron & Kenny(1986) was used to know if the father's self-differentiation did the role of the parameter variations in the relations of the father's self-controlled and positive parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability.
The results of the study are as follows. First, the father's parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability do not differ according to his age, school career, and jobs, and the father's self-controlled and positive parenting attitudes have the significant relations with the social maturity degree of the children with disability. The father's self-differentiation has the static relations with positive parenting attitudes; this shows that the more self-controlled and loving the father's parenting attitudes are, the higher their social maturity degree is.
Second, the trial to know the relations between the father's positive parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability showed that the father's self-differentiation had the perfect effects of parameter between the father's loving parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability, which was among the lower variations, but not between the father's self-controlled parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability. This shows that the father's loving parenting attitudes have the direct effects to raise the social maturity degree of the children with disability, and also the father's self-controlled parenting attitudes indirectly influence on the social maturity degree of the children with disability; in the condition that the father's self-differentiation is controlled, the father's loving parenting attitudes have no cause and effect with the social maturity degree of the children with disability.
In conclusion, this study showed the father's positive parenting attitudes significantly influences on the social maturity degree of the children with disability. In particular as revealed in this study the fact the degree of the father's self-differentiation played the role of the parameters between the father's loving parenting attitudes and the social maturity degree of the children with disability will provide the positive provoking suggestions to the following studies and programs.
Key words : parental attitudes, self-differentiation, children with disabilities, social maturity degree.
