This research was done intending to confirm the longitudinal influence of satisfaction to school's career support program to student's career maturity development with the mediating effect of self reliance and to reveal the differences of the influences between general high schools and vocational high schools and how the differences are. Also, according to the results, this sought to provide implications for career education policy and schools' role as an implementing agency on the two points: how they should act and how they should differ based of the types of schools.
To verify the research questions, this research analysed the KYPS' 2003-2006 data. A middle school second year cohort with 3449 students was used to analyse the total effect and the mediation effect, and the 2990 students of general high schools and vocational schools were selected from the same data to verify the difference between the school types. Descriptive statistics, Correlations were conducted to figure out the pattern of the data and then a multivariate latent growth modeling was used to analyse the statistical pattern of each variable. The differences between the two types of schools were analysed using the comparative method in multivariate latent growth modeling. The followings are conclusions of this research according to the research purposes and the results.
First, there are linear growing trends in the self reliance and career maturity during the period from middle school second year to high school second year. However, no significant linear change was found in the satisfaction of students from school's career support program. This is probably because that there was rare stress on the career guidance policy at that time in Korea and that the concept of satisfaction has the characteristic which can easily be changed hard to increase or decrease constantly.
Second, Students' satisfaction on the schools' career support program affects the self-reliance and career maturity of initial status(middle school second year) statistically significantly, and the self reliance at that time also had an sigmificant effect on the career maturity of the same time. Also, the change rate of the self reliance affects on the change rate of the career maturity in process of time from middle school second year until high school second year.
Third, there are direct and indirect effect of Students' satisfaction on the schools' career support program. The satisfaction on the program had a direct effect on the students' career maturity and it also had an indirect effect on career maturity through the mediating effect of self reliance.
Fourth, as comparing the students of general high schools and of the vocational high schools, the parts showing the differences in a whole model were the effects of Students' satisfaction on the schools' career support program on the initial status and the change rate of the self reliance. This means they have been affected differently from same or similar career education and guidance in the middle school period, and also they showed the difference from the different career related activities of the two types of schools.
Fifth, the results mentioned above are considered to be able to give some implications on the government's career policy for adolescents and on each school's career guidance programs and activities. However, in the process, the limitations of this study and the reality should be pondered.
