The purpose of this thesis is to see if there is any correlation between the marriage satisfaction and the role satisfaction of pastors' wives. This study specifically looks in the demographic variables and the marriage satisfaction's influence on the role satisfaction of pastors' wives.
This study collected the data from the pastors' wives in Seoul area and Kyunggi providence by the surveys on marriage satisfaction and role satisfaction. The participants were 334 and run by the SPSS(Statistical Package for the Social Science) 12.0 to test the t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and simple session analysis for the data analysis. And Scheffe method was used for the posteriori test.
The results indicate that:
First, the sense of calling to ministry among the many demographic variables did not show any significant difference in terms of effect on the participants' marriage satisfaction. However, the study found out that the pastors' wife's choice affect the level of marriage satisfaction. Even more, if the marriage was the wife's choice than the husband, then the marriage satisfaction level was more significant.
There was significant difference in terms of marriage satisfaction according to the participants' age difference. The participants at their 60s show the highest marriage satisfaction while the 20s showed the lowest. This makes sense, because pastors (husbands) usually reach their stability peak in their ministry after 25 years of marriage. It was followed by age group of 40s and then 50s.
Second, the finding indicated that the sense of calling affect the role satisfaction of pastors wives. The sense of calling of pastors' wives affects their role play and satisfaction as pastors' wives. There was also significant differences among the groups in their role satisfaction according to the length of ministry. Other factors such as salary satisfaction, spouse support, private life satisfaction, and church satisfaction also contribute significantly to the participants' role satisfaction. One of the sub variables shows that salary satisfaction rate is high for those who have been in the ministry for less than 10 years that was the shortest length in the ministry among the participants. It is because those participants have less financial burden for the expenses on the children that enabled them to feel more satisfied with what they receive. There is also a significant difference in role satisfaction according to the educational background of the pastors' wives. The lower the education, the more role satisfaction. It is interesting that the high school graduates show higher role satisfaction than the college graduates in church lives and salary satisfaction. Especially, looking at the role of sub-variable satisfaction between groups, the high school graduates show higher role satisfaction than the college graduates in salary satisfaction, private life satisfaction, spouse support satisfaction and church satisfaction. college graduates, university graduates are in order.
However, in the satisfaction of the church did not differ between groups.
Thirdly, the marriage satisfaction affected the role satisfaction. Especially the marriage satisfaction affects almost all areas including salary satisfaction, church satisfaction, private life satisfaction, spouse support satisfaction, and pastors' wife role satisfaction.
The results of this thesis provided clear evidence that pastors' wives' marriage satisfaction affects their role satisfaction. This study suggests that it is necessary to dignify the family life of the pastors' family, for the pastors' wives marriage satisfaction affects a lot the ministry.
