본 연구는 청소년의 지각한 사회적 지지가 우울에 미치는 영향을 파악하고, 청소년의 성별, 학년, 종교, 부모의 교육수준, 부모의 직업에 따른 사회적 지지와 우울의 차이를 제시하였다.
연구대상은 초등학교 5학년, 중학교 2학년, 고등학교 2학년 학생 431명이었다. 사회적 지지 척도와 우울 척도를 사용하여 질문지를 구성하였으며 빈도 및 백분율, 평균, 표준편차, t-test, 회귀분석, 분산분석을 사용하여 분석하였다.
연구문제는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 청소년의 성별에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이가 있는가?
둘째, 청소년의 학년에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이가 있는가?
셋째, 부모의 교육수준에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이가 있는가?
넷째, 종교에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이가 있는가?
다섯째, 직업에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이가 있는가?
여섯째, 청소년의 우울에 영향을 미치는 변수의 상대적 영향력은 어떠한가?
본 연구에서 얻어진 주요 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 청소년의 사회적 지지는 성별에 따라 어머니 지지, 교사 지지, 또래 지지에서는 차이가 없는 반면, 아버지 지지와 총 지지에서는 차이가 있었다. 남학생이 여학생보다 아버지 지지를 높게 지각하고 있었다. 청소년이 지각한 우울은 성별에 따라 유의미한 차이가 없었다.
둘째, 청소년의 학년에 따라 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울에 차이는 모든 사회적 지지에서 학년에 따른 차이가 있었다. 학년에 따라 청소년이 우울을 느끼는 정도에 대한 차이를 분석한 결과 무능감은 학년이 높을수록 높게 지각했다.
셋째, 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지를 아버지의 교육수준에 따라 차이를 살펴본 결과 아버지 지지, 어머니 지지 ,또래 지지, 총 지지에서는 차이가 없는 반면, 교사 지지에서는 차이가 있었다. 그러나 청소년이 지각한 우울은 아버지 교육수준에 따라 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 또한 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지와 우울은 어머니의 교육수준에 따라 차이는 차이가 없었다.
넷째, 청소년이 지각한 사회적 지지가 종교의 유무에 따라 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 종교에 유무에 따라 청소년의 지각한 우울은 종교가 있는 사람이 우울정서, 대인장애, 무력감, 자기비하 총 우울에서 종교가 없는 사람보다 높게 지각했다.
다섯째, 아버지가 단순노무직인 경우에 청소년은 아버지 지지를 낮게 지각했다. 또한 아버지의 직업이 전문직인 경우 아버지 지지를 높게 지각했다. 어머니 지지, 교사 지지, 또래 지지, 총 지지에서는 유의미한 차이가 없었다. 청소년은 대인장애, 무능감에서 아버지의 직업이 단순노무직인 경우의 청소년이 다른 직업 아버지의 경우 보다 높게 지각했다. 그러나 우울정서, 무력감, 자기비하, 총 우울에서는 유의미한 차이를 나타내지 않았다.
여섯째, 아버지 지지는 청소년의 우울정서, 무능감, 무력감, 자기비하와 총우울에 영향을 미친다.

The purposes of this study were to investigate the effect of adolescent's social support on their depression, and to examine adolescent's social support and depression depending on their sex, grade level, religion, parent's occupation and their educational level.
The subjects of this study were 431 students in 5th grade of elementary schools, 2nd grade in middle schools and in high schools. The questionnaire was composed with the scales of social support and depression, and the data were analyzed using frequency and percentile, mean, standard deviations, t-test, multiple regression and analysis of variance.
The research questions were as follows:
First, is there a difference in the social supports and the depression perceived by adolescent according to their sex?
Second, is there a difference in the social supports and the depression perceived by adolescent according to their grade level?
Third, is there a difference in the social supports and the depression perceived by adolescent according to parent's educational level ?
Fourth, is there a difference in the social supports and the depression perceived by adolescent according to their religion?
Fifth, is there a difference in the social supports and the depression perceived by adolescent according to their parent's occupation?
Sixth, is there an effect of adolescent's social support on their depression?
Major findings were as follows:
First of all, there was a difference in acknowledgement in the father's support and overall support depending on their sex. But there was no difference in mother's support, teacher's support and peer's support. Male student's awareness of the father's support was higher than female student. Depression perceived by the adolescent had no significant difference according to their sex.
Second, there was a difference in the social support and depression according to grade level. High schooler's sense of inadequacy was higher than middle schooler.
Third, there were no difference in the father's, mother's, peers' and overall support according to the father's educational level. But there was a difference in the teacher's support according to the father's educational level. However, there was no significant difference in the depression according to the father's education level. Also, there was no difference in the social support and depression according to the mother's educational level.
Fourth, there was no religion difference in social support. But there was a significant difference in depression depending on religion. Students with religion perceived depressed sentiment, anti-personnel disorders, sense of powerlessness, self-contempt and overall depression more highly than those students without religion.
Fifth, the adolescent with father working in simple labor perceived father's support less. Also, those student with professional father perceived father's support highly. There was no significant difference in mother's support, teacher's support, peer's support, and overall support. In anti-personnel disorders and sense of inadequacy, adolescent with fathers working in simple labor perceived highly than those with fathers working in other professions. However, there was no significant difference in depressed sentiments, sense of powerlessness, self-contempt and overall depression.
Sixth, father's support influenced adolescent's depressed sentiments, sense of inadequacy, sense of powerlessness, self-contempt and overall depression.
