공공미술의 사회적 기능과 시행 사례분석

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The time when advanced technologies got attention has gone; now is the time when humanism and the surroundings of human beings are being magnified as the life and feeling of human beings get more important. Environment has multi-directional influences the life and feeling of human beings, and the interaction of human beings and environment is greatly complex and closely related each other. Nowadays, urban area is a space of life that includes physical and psychological spaces where human beings live and socialize. However, the congestion of cities, the standardization of industrialization, and functionalization have made the environment of cities non-emotional. As the quality of urban environment is closely related with the life of human beings, the composition of urban environment gets more important. Hence, people started to consider the environmental involvement of public arts, a broad concept of arts including landscaping elements, artificial structures, and arts, in order to make urban environment contributing to the improvement of quality of urban life and to create a resting place where people can satisfy their demand for culture and restore their peace of mind. Public arts is a way to apply the aesthetic elements of plastic arts to urban daily life, an attempt to makes urban environment more beautiful, and the expansion of arts into the scope of daily life. Therefore, public arts expresses personal emotion as a work of arts, but it should have a societal function of making a bond of sympathy and expressing the interests of urban dwellers because it is located at public space. Meeting this requirement, public arts dose not have the elements of plastic arts, but also harmonizes with surroundings and considers the problems related with urban space. Public arts provides local citizen with a motivation of participation, includes urban development, and plays a role of creating the identity of a city.
This study aimed at searching for the direction of public arts by analyzing the detailed implementation cases and societal functions of public arts that provides city people with a tonic, restores humane emotion, and imbues the urban living space of the contemporary city people with humane and aesthetic elements.
