This study attempted to investigate the effect of internationally-wedded migrant women's perceived awareness of the delivery system of the support policy for multi-cultural family on social adaptation. And it sought to identify what moderating effect the social relationship network had in this relationship. That is, this study was intended to find out the social-welfare intervention plan to help internationally-wedded migrant women become adapted to Korean society. In the research method, the subjects were selected in a non-probability sampling method. The questionnaire research was conducted for 160 internationally-wedded migrant women living in Dangjin-gun South Chungcheong Province. As a result, the following findings were obtained:
First, it was found that the internationally-wedded migrant women generally had the high level of awareness on the delivery system and of social adaptation. And it was found that they had the low level of social relationship network and that their general characteristic influencing social adaptation was the period of marriage. That is, it was found that the internationally-wedded migrant women had good social adaptation as the period of their married life became long.
Second, an attempt was made to investigate the effect of their awareness of the social welfare delivery system on social adaptation. It was found that their awareness of the delivery system had a very great effect on social adaptation. Especially, speciality acted as the major variable influencing social adaptation in the relationship between the subdomain of awareness on the delivery system and social adaptation.
Third, it was found that in the relationship between social relationship network and social adaptation social relationship network had an effect on social adaptation but was not statistically significant. It was found that the relationship network of those concerned with the religious group, the subdomain of the social relationship network, was a major variable influencing social adaptation. As a result, it was found that internationally-wedded migrant women had good social adaptation as they had the high awareness of the delivery system and speciality and as they had the good relationship network of those concerned with the religious group in the social relationship network.
Fourth, an attempt was made to investigate the moderating effect of the social relationship network to the effect of awareness of the delivery system on social adaptation. And the interaction between the awareness of the delivery system and the social relationship network did not have a moderating effect on social adaptation. It was found that the relationship network of those concerned with the religious group, the subdomain of the social relationship network, had an direct effect on social adaptation but that was not statistically significant as its moderating effect.
In conclusion, the social-welfare implications of this study were as follows:
First, it is necessary to provide policy support for internationally wedded migrant women to become adapted to Korean society as they have difficulty becoming socially adapted at the early period of the married life. Especially, it is necessary to provide systematic support for internationally wedded migrant women to acquire the Korean-language speaking and listening ability as it is very necessary for communication.
Second, it is necessary to intervene in internationally wedded migrant women's awareness of the delivery system. Seeing that it was found that the awareness of the delivery system had a very great effect on social adaptation, the problems of the overall delivery system should be improved.
Third, it is necessary to intervene in the social relationship network of internationally-wedded migrant women. The effect of the social relationship network on social adaptation was not statistically significant, but they showed good social adaptation when they had the good social relationship network. Therefore, it is thought that social-welfare intervention in the social relationship network is needed.
