This research is about the differences of children's psychological well-being according to academic stress level and stress coping styles. It was surveyed to 515 male and female elementary school students in Gyeonggi province. The purpose of this research is to provide preliminary data to prepare a positive and effective countermeasure that helps education and counseling. This study shows how the differences of stress coping style according to academic stress level and academic stress coping patterns relatively influence on psychological well-being. The data was analyzed using SPSS and the results are listed below.
1. As a result of studying there is significant difference of stress coping styles according to academic stress (school work, grade, parents' pressure) levels. Students whose academic stress level is low or normal use active coping styles more than those who are in high stress level, and students whose academic stress level is above normal use passive and aggressive coping styles. Especially, the more stress students get from their parents, the more they use passive coping styles, and students whose parents' pressure stress level is above normal use aggressive coping style more than those who are in lower level.
2. Stress coping style has relative influence over psychological well-being (negative feeling on school life). It explains that active coping style and social support seeking coping style provide the most positive feeling factors on school life. It shows that aggressive and passive coping style affect students in a negative way.
3. As a result of studying, there is significant difference of psychological well-being by academic stress level. The higher academic stress level students have, the less positive feeling they have towards school life and students get more negative feeling towards school life.
These finding shows that there are differences of psychological well-being according to academic stress level that students suffer from inside and outside school. Therefore, it is necessary to find more effective and positive coping methods which can be useful to children's mental program or counseling. This can help children reduce academic stress.
