The purpose of this thesis is to attempt Zhouyi analysis on the Yi Mae-Bang chum, the holder of Seungmoo and Salpuri chum, lmportant Intangible Cultural Properties #27 and #97, respectively. In this study, Seungmoo, Salpuri chum, Yip-chum, and Gummoo were analyzed based on the stylistic characteristics, and he learned those Chum from his Gwonbeon(券番) teacher. This study showed that the stylistic characteristics were related with the principle of T`ai-chi(太極), Yin-Yang(陰陽), and Samjae(三才), and also tried to find aesthetic consciousness based on this Zhouyi analysis.
This thesis investigated the DaeSamSoSam(大衫小衫) in Yin-Yang study with a basis of correlation with JangDan(長短: Rhythm), and also Yin-Yang study of Flexion-Extension(屈伸) found in Didimsae, Samjae study in JungJoongDong(靜中動) and Gwae of I Ching from aesthetic sense.
As a result, the Yangwoosun(兩雨線) of upper body movement from Seungmoo, Salpuri chum, Yip-chum, and Gummoo of Yi Mae-Bang Chum formed Taekeuksun shape as the both hands took balance and harmony even with conflict movement of Yin-Yang. In the lower body movement, the Flexion-Extension is basically upward at the 1st and 3rd beats, while downward at the 2nd and 4th beats. This is the similar Yin-Yang form of I Ching "GyeSaJunSang(繫辭傳上)" in which upward by stretching out legs at the odd number, the number of heaven, while downward by bending the leg at the even number, the number of land. The breathing pattern showed taking a breath at the 1st and 3rd beats, while breathing out at the 2nd and 4th beats. This breathing pattern was related with the movement pattern found in the Flexion-Extension as taking breath and breathing out at the odd number, the number of heaven, and at the even number, the number of land, respectively. The breathing was a medium making Flexion-Extension movement more natural. The Yin-Yang principle was implemented by completing DaeSamSoSam in one JangDan, in which movement was composed of large movement of Yang, and small movement of Yin in a dance. In here, the movement of upper body and lower body, and breathing were expressed in the form SamJae, i.e., Heaven, Land and Human. "SulGwaeJun(說卦傳)" in I Ching commented enlightments of Heaven, Land and Human as Yin-Yang, Gang-Yu(剛柔: Sturdiness and Gentleness) and In-Eui(仁義: Humanity and Justice), respectively. The SamJae was expressed by the Yin-Yang movement of both arms in the upper body movement as Heaven, by the Flexion-Extension of the lower body movement as Land, and by taking in and out breathing as Human. Especially in the movement, the upper body, above the navel, moved in dynamic way and showed various form of dance movement, but the lower body moved in static way and showed limited dance movement in DiDimSae than that of the upper body movement.
With this Zhouyi analysis, GyoTaeMi(嬌態美) was found in the YangWooSun in the aesthetic consciousness. GyoTaeMi could be related with JiCheonTaeGwae(地天泰卦), in which Gon(坤: Yin), and Gun(乾: Yang) were placed at top and bottom in Zhouyi. Beauty of movement like water flowing (流水的 流動美) was found in the Flexion-Extension and Breathing, and DaeSamSoSam. The beauty of movement like water flowing could be related with SuTaekJulGwae(水澤節卦), water above the Pond of Zhouyi. Finally, beauty of spacial shape(空間的 形象美) was found in the movement of JungJoongDong. The beauty of spacial shape could be related with the JoongRaeJinGwae(重雷震卦), composed of JinGwae for both top and bottom, in Zhouyi. In conclusion, Yi Mae-Bang Chum as one of the KyoBang-Chum was found to be formed based on I Ching Philosophy, and aesthetic consciousness of his Chum could be also explained by I Ching Principle.
The significance of this thesis is to investigate Yi Mae-Bang Chum as one of the KyoBang-Chum from the philosophical view point through the Zhouyi analysis on the movement of his chum stylistic characteristics. And we also expect to enhance the artistic value of the traditional dance with this kind of study, and establish the foundation of artistic value of Kyobang-Chum.
