The study aims to find out any influences affected on children's intrapersonal intelligence by representing with case studies in the programs where "Arts PROPEL" project applied on process dramas. The project has been previously proceeded by "Project Zero" research team at Harvard University in order to solve problems in finding appropriate education process and evaluation for artistic development on children.
As everyone knows, it is hard to anticipate on respect for students' self-realization and their diversity under our society's expectation in an actual education world where takes more importance on intellectual studies. However we are still facing with a reality that cognition in taking an importance on art education, is still vulnerable, moreover development and effort to practice specific method, process and evaluation for the improvement are also insufficient.
Under preparation of the basis for experiences in students' self-realization through art education, there need specific education methods and its development. In addition, there should be a study how those education and evaluation methods influence on students. Accordingly, the study uses "Arts PROPEL" project based on processes of production, perception and self-reflection to construct a process drama directly handled by students. As the students directly producing dramas, they perceive the dramas, further reaches self-reflection on themselves. The whole process in experiencing such activity, is derived based on the research which was taken with analysis on experiment after formulating hypotheses.
"Process drama" program was constructed and developed under twelve sections by centralized on subjects consisted of six cognitive and functional activities related with self-examination. The target population of the program was selected by total twenty-two students in eleven for male and female respectively in the 4th grade at "S" public elementary school in the city of Seoul. The progress session was proceeded for sixteen weeks.
Intrapersonal intelligence assessments scale for elementary students by Oh Jeong Kwon (2008) was used as a tool in the examination. "Intrapersonal intelligence assessment scale" is constructed of questions which measure six factors such as perception of capacity and emotion, utilization of emotion, judgment, controlling impulse, a target set and accomplishment-oriented, based on three large areas in self-knowledge, self-control and self-regulation and self-improvement,
Dependent sample t test was conducted in order to examine a change of intrapersonal intelligence assessments in comparison between before and after taking the experiment on the group. An empirical analysis of the study has been verified in the level of significance, p<.05 and p<.01. Its statistics has been analyzed by using a statistical program I-STATistics in web version which was developed by Kyung-Sung Kim (2010) (http;//qsp.snue.ac.kr/istat/). The conclusion of the study is as follows.
First of all, in the area of self-understanding, an average after the experiment was significantly high in comparison with before. There were also significant improvements found on a low factor, capability, a factor in affective perception and a factor in the utilization of emotion.
Second, in the area of self-regulation, there has found no much statistical difference on an average in after, as followed by before. Its low factor, judgment also has no significant improvement. On the other hand, a factor of impulsive control has a signifiant improvement in the statistics.
For the area of self-designing as the last, post-average had a comparatively higher significance with prior-average. In the case of low factor, a target set has no significant improvement in the statistics. However, there was a significant improvement shown for another low factor, accomplishment-oriented.
By reviewing the research in the overall, we could have drawn a conclusion, which 'process drama' program has positively affected in the growth of self-understanding and designing in children's intrapersonal intelligence. As followed by, we also could gain a conclusion that an experiential education and an evaluation in the artistic way, have given a positive influence on the improvement of students' intrapersonal intelligence. Additionally the study collected and made a comparison in the process folio between in the early and the latter parts of the program in order to supplement the limitations of quantitative research. Whereas students mainly reported impressions in the self-evaluation toward simple compliments, opinions/feelings about the program on itself or summary of pretext in the beginning of the programme, they became to write more focused on self-accomplishment, specific self-reflection or improvements about their accomplishment for full drama as progressing to the latter parts of the work. Also, there was a higher frequency in writing more specific and positive impressions on the self-assessment.
For the conclusion, there are a number of suggestions to be proposed as follows. First of all, it strongly suggests a development of various programs as well as teaching-learning methods related with particular fields in intrapersonal intelligence. Also there expects a continuous research to be succeeded, regarding various changes which teachers can experience when applying a process of "Arts PROPEL" in production -perception-reflection on art education. Lastly, we expect a research to be succeeded on the method how to evaluate students in "educational drama". In order to take "educational drama" as the one of the main education processes at school, it should not be simply an assessment in estimating technical ability, but to be proceeded by developing a method in the assessment that is appropriate for its characteristics at the same time. Hence "educational drama" can be an evaluation in art education, w
