Toddlers form the very first group at toddler education association with others except home and family and create social relation. As appropriate emotional expression and interaction play huge role on social friendly behavior and adjustment so there is a need of support of toddler education association for the positive development of this emotional expression and social friendly behavior to create effective social relation of toddlers. Therefore, this research selects picture book with the contents of helping emotional expression and social relation of toddlers, tell various types of literature pieces to toddlers and aims to develop emotional expression and social-friendly behavior of toddlers via response-oriented literary activity.
The set research questions are as below.
1. How does response-oriented literary activity affect on emotional expression of toddler?
2. How does response-oriented literary activity affect on social-friendly activity of toddler?
2-1 How does response-oriented literary activity affect on adjustment of toddlers to the kindergarten?
2-2 response-oriented literary activity affect on social relation formation of toddlers?
2-3 response-oriented literary activity affect on personal emotion adjustment of toddlers?
This research set the research object as D kindergarten located at Seoul, Mapo-gu, 40 male and female toddlers aged 5 and used the measurement tool of emotional expression of toddlers that is recognition and expression standard of self emotion among 6 sub-standards of standard of toddlers' EQ for teachers produced by Kim, Gyeong Hee(1999) based on conceptual model of EQ edited and suggested by Salovey and Mayer(1990, 1996). For the social friendly behavior test of toddlers, it used 'social friendly behavior test of toddlers' as before and after test that is produced by edition and revision of ‘Skill situation Measure’ that is produced to measure social friendly behavior of toddler by Mcginnis, Goldstein(1990) via pre-test by Lee, Won Young, Park, Chan Ok, No, Young Hee(1993). The data analysis was statistically processed by marking each item into the point system. We used SPSS/WIN statistic program 18.0 for the statistic process and the analysis is as below. To understand the difference of before, after social friendly behavior and emotional expression of toddler accordign to the response-oriented literary activity for experimental and control groups, we performed ANCOVA that takes after test score as dependent variable while taking before test score as covariance for the control of group difference and error possibly existing before the experiment.
This research result is summarized into following.
First, according to the result of emotional expression, after the performance than the before had higher average score of emotional expression in experimental group than comparison group so it proved improvement with the activity for the emotional expression. Second, according to the result about adjustment to the kindergarten, there was high average score on adjustment to kindergarten by experimental group than comparison group so it proved improvement with the activity for the adjustment capability. Third, according to the result about relation creation, there was higher average score in relation creation for the experimental group than comparison group so it proved improvement with the activity for the relation creation. Fourth, according to the result of personal emotion control of toddlers related to the social friendly behavior, there was higher average score in personal emotion control of toddlers for the experimental group than comparison group so it proved improvement with the activity for personal emotion control of toddlers. Fifth, according to the general result about kindergarten adjustment, relation creation, social friendly behavior of toddlers related to personal emotion control of toddlers, there was higher average score in social friendly activity of toddlers for the experimental group than comparison group so it proved improvement with the activity for social friendly activity of toddlers.
