중학생의 외모만족도와 학교적응과의 관계에서 대인관계의 매개효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 중학생의 외모만족도와 학교적응과의 관계에서 대인관계의 매개 효과를 알아보기 위한 목적으로 실시되었다. 본 연구에서는 D광역시에 소재한 2개 중학교 남학생 329명과 여학생 336명을 대상으로 외모만족도, 학교적응, 대인관계검사를 위한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 각 변인간의 관계를 살펴보기 위하여 Pearson의 적률상관계수를 산출하였고, 외모만족도와 학교적응과의 관계에서 대인관계의 매개효과 연구모형의 적합도를 밝히고자 RMSEA와 TLI, CFI를 사용하여 모형의 적합도를 검증하였다. 외모만족도가 대인관계를 통해 학교적응에 미치는 간접효과에 대한 유의도 검증을 위해 Sobel검정을 실시하였다.
본 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 외모만족도와 학교적응은 유의한 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 외모만족도와 대인관계는 유의한 정적상관이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 외모만족도와 대인관계가 높을수록 학교적응이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 외모만족도는 대인관계를 매개로하여 학교적응에 간접적으로 영향을 미쳤다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 외모에 대한 만족도가 자아개념을 형성해 나가는 시기인 청소년기에 자신의 주관적인 평가를 통해 대인관계와 학교적응에 영향을 미친다는 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서 청소년들에게 외모에 대한 바른 가치관과 인식을 심어주어, 긍정적인 대인관계와 학교생활 적응을 돕기 위한 교육적 지도가 필요하다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This purpose of the study was to examine the mediating effect of interpersonal relationships in the relation between appearance satisfaction and school adjustment of the middle school students. A questionnaire for appearance satisfaction, school adjustment, interpersonal relation was distributed to 329 male and 336 female students from two middle schools which were located in D city. To understand the relationships among research variables, the product-moment correlation coefficients of Pearson were computed. Also, to confirm the research model of the study for mediating effect of interpersonal relationship in the relation between appearance satisfaction and school adjustment, RMSEA and TLI, CFI were calculated. The Sobel test was conducted to verify the significance for indirect effect of appearance satisfaction on school adjustment mediated by the interpersonal relationship. The results of the analyses were as follows: first, the appearance satisfaction and school adjustment had a significant statistical relation. Second, the appearance satisfaction and interpersonal relationship had a significant statistical relation. Third, higher appearance satisfaction and interpersonal relation resulted in higher school adjustment. Also, appearance satisfaction indirectly affected school adjustment by the mediating interpersonal relationship.
According to these results, we could conclude that, in the period of adolescent when appearance satisfaction forms a self-concept, one's subjective evaluation affects interpersonal relationship and school adjustment. Hereupon, with putting right value and recognition to adolescents' own appearances, proper educational guidance should be provided for helping positive interpersonal relationship and school adjustment.
