The research studied how the participation of the after school physical activity of the elementar school students effcts on the self-esteem and the happiness.
The targets of the study are 352 elementary school students of 4 or 5th grade in Gyeongsang-do. The study used the Self-Esteem Inventory: SEI which Choi, Boga and Jeon, Gui Yun(1993) developed to measure the self-esteem of Korean children referring to the study of Coopersmith(1967) and Pope.McChale, Craighead(1998) in order to measure the self-esteem, and used the modification version of the measuring instrument of the elementary school student's happiness which Lee, Jung Hwa(2005) developed and Kim, Doran(2007) modified.
Following result was obtained from the study.
First, while the factors of the general self-esteem and the social self-esteem which are sub factors of the self-esteem is not noticeable statistically according to the result analyzing the self-esteem difference by elementar school student's sex, the factors of the self-esteem in family and self esteem school showed the noticeable difference.
Second, in the result analyzing the happiness difference by the elementary school students' sex, the factors of the family environment and ego characteristic showed the noticeable value.
Third, in the result analyzing the self esteem difference according to the after school physical activity participation, the factors of the social self-esteem and the self-esteem in school except the general self-esteem and the self-esteem in the family which are the sub factors of the self-esteem showed the noticeable difference.
Fourth, in the result analyzing the relation between self-esteem and happiness by the after school physical activity participation, the factors of the family environment, ego characteristics, capability, and personal relations of the happiness by the participation type didn't show the noticeble difference statistically.
Fifth, in the result stuying the relations between the self-esteem and the happiness, most factors showed the positive relationship. The family environment factor among the happiness feelings showed the highest positive relation with the self-esteem in the family among the self-esteem feelings and the ego characteristic factor showed the highest positive relationship with the general self-esteem factor among the self-esteem feelings. The capacity factor among the happiness feelings showed the highest positive relationship with the general self-esteem factor among the self-esteem factor and the personal relations factor showed the highest positive relationship with the social self-esteem factor among the self-esteem feelings.
Sixth, in the result studying the effect of the self-esteem to the sub factors of happiness the family environment factor among the happiness feelings showed the noticeable relations to the social self-esteem and the self-esteem in the family, and the ego characteristic factor showed the noticeable relation with the general self-esteem, the social self-esteem and the self-esteem in the family. The capability factor of the happiness showed the noticeable relations with the general self-esteem, the social self-esteem, and the self-esteem in the family, and the personal relations factor showed the noticeable positive relations with the general self-esteem, the social self-esteem, and the self-esteem in the family.
