The present study holds the purpose to develop the integral artistic activity programs for young children that links to other artistic activities such as music, dance and dramatic plays, as well as artistic activities by using narratives. Furthermore, it will also attempt to seek the effectiveness of the developed programs within classrooms of young children.
The contents of the study are as follows.
1. Draft proposal for the integral artistic activity program using narratives will be developed for young children.
2. Changes in the expressivity of young children appearing in the application of the program will be examined.
3. Aesthetic reactions of the young children appearing in the application of the program will be examined.
The participants of the present study are 53 children, at the age of 4, and their 2 homeroom teachers at 'A' Kindergarten located in the city of Busan. Moreover, the study was processed in the order of developing the draft of program, program application, data analysis and data arrangement.
To develop the program draft according to content 1, precedent researches, documentations and consultations with early child education experts were taken as reference. Based on such efforts, the basic direction of the program, purpose, theme, contents and methods of activities were designed.
In accordance with study content 2, the SPSS 12.0 program was used to execute t-test on the pre-post test results of the three dimensional artistic expressivity and linguistic expressivity of the control group and the treatment group to find out the changes in the expressivity of the young children.
In accordance with study content 3, the data of video recordings, ancillary data, informal talks with the homeroom teachers and the daily records of the researchers were analyzed to find out the aesthetic reactions of the young children.
The study results from above are as follows.
The pre-post test results of the three dimensional artistic expressivity and linguistic expressivity appearing in the program application of study program 2 displayed higher results in the treatment groups in comparison to the average of the control groups. Moreover, there existed a significant difference as a result of statistically verifying the average difference of the two groups.
The aesthetic reactions of the young children appearing in the program application of problem 3 was categorized as the traveler that crosses between imagination and reality, small artist enjoying symbols and the coordinators of classes with abundant esthetic sense.
In such ways, the present study holds significance in that it has presented a new direction within the integration and artistic activities by shedding new light on the hidden value and strength of narratives within the classrooms of young children.
