The Correlation between Special Education Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy and Job Satisfaction and their Characteristics

<Abstract>
The purpose of this study was to examine special education teachers’ sense of efficacy and job satisfaction and also the correlation between them. Thereupon, this research conducted a survey to 260 special education teachers working in Jeollrabuk-do and studied their sense of efficacy and job satisfaction by analyzing the questionnaire on teacher efficacy and job satisfaction. And it gained the followings as its results.
First, special education teachers’ sense of efficacy differed by their background variables.
Second, special education teachers’ job satisfaction differed by their background variables.
Third, there was correlation between special education teachers’ sense of efficacy and job satisfaction.
However, this study still exhibits the following limitations.
First, since the subjects were the special education teachers working in schools located in Jeollrabuk-do, it is limited to generalize the result as that of the entire special education teacher group.
Second, because the tool developed for this study was to measure general teachers’ sense of efficacy and job satisfaction, it is somewhat insufficient to reflect accurately the characteristics of special education teachers who teach disabled children .
Based on the above results, this paper suggests the followings.
First, although this study only targets the teachers working in schools located in Jeollrabuk-do, it is necessary to conduct studies which extend the subjects of sampling to a nationwide range.
Second, this article only uses the questionnaire method for analysis, it is needed to conduct researches applying various study methods including interviewing.
Third, it is necessary to conduct studies examining various factors affecting the correlation between teacher efficacy and job satisfaction.
