주거빈곤이 노인 우울에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 = A Study on the effects of housing poverty on the elderly depression

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 주거빈곤이 노인우울에 미치는 영향이 어떠한가를 알아보는 것이다. 노년기 은퇴 등으로 인하여 집안에 머무르는 시간이 다른 연령대보다 상대적으로 긴 노인은 주거환경이 열악할 경우 우울감에 영향을 받을 것이다. 본 연구는 주거빈곤에 관한 연구가 일천한 우리나라에서 향후 노인 우울감을 예방 및 감소시킬 수 있는 환경요인으로서 주거빈곤을 제시하여, 노인의 삶의 질을 향상시킬 수 있는 노인주거복지정책을 수립하는데 필요한 기초자료를 마련하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 먼저 노인주거빈곤과 우울의 실태를 파5악하였고, 다음으로 주거빈곤이 노인의 우울에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 분석하였다.
본 연구에서 사용한 주거빈곤은 주거의 물리적 특성인 ‘최저주거기준’ 미달과 경제적 특성인 ‘주거비 부담능력’ 미달을 포함하는 개념이다. 주거빈곤이 노인 우울에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여 본 연구는 한국복지패널의 3차년도 자료를 활용하였다. 회귀분석을 통하여 주거빈곤이 노인우울에 미치는 영향에 대하여 확인하였으며, 다음으로 주거빈곤의 각 하위요인별로 노인우울에 미치는 영향에 대하여 살펴보았다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 최저주거기준과 주거비부담기준 미달을 합한 전체 주거빈곤이 노인의 우울감에 미치는 영향력을 알아본 결과 통계적으로 유의미한 영향력이 나타는 것을 확인하였다. 기존에 노인우울에 영향을 미치는 것으로 알려져왔거나 영향을 미칠 것으로 예상되는 요인들을 통제한 상태에서도 주거빈곤은 노인의 우울감에 영향을 주며, 주거빈곤이 심할수록 노인의 우울감은 증가하였다.
둘째, 이러한 분석결과를 토대로 주거빈곤의 개별적 하위요인들이 노인의 우울감에 미치는 영향에 대하여 살펴본 결과, 네 가지 하위요인들 중 두 가지 면에서 통계적으로 유의미한 영향력이 확인되었고, 다른 두 가지 하위요인에서는 그 영향력이 통계적으로 유의미하지 않게 나타났다.
가장 높은 영향력을 나타낸 하위요인은 주택의 구조, 성능 및 환경기준 미달로 이를 경험할수록 노인은 우울감이 증가하는 것으로 확인되었고, 다음으로 시설기준 미달에서 노인우울에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 면적기준 미달과 주거비부담의 면에서는 통계적으로 유의미한 영향력이 나타나지 않았는데, 이는 후속과제에서 보다 깊이 있는 분석을 요하는 부분이다.
이와 같은 결과에서 노인의 우울감을 감소 및 예방을 하기 위해서는 기존의 우울요인으로 알려진 요인 외에 주거빈곤의 개선이 이루어져야 하며, 주거빈곤의 다른 기준들보다 주거의 물리적 구조, 성능 및 환경기준 개선이 우선적으로 필요함을 알 수 있다. 노인인구의 급격한 증가로 고령화시대에 접어든 현 시점에서 다른 연령대에 비하여 상대적으로 그 영향력이 크다고 할 수 있는 노인의 우울과 주거빈곤과의 관계를 살펴본 이러한 연구는 필요하며 이에 본 연구의 의의를 지닌다. 본 연구는 향후 노인 우울을 감소시키고 삶의 질을 향상시켜 노인복지발전을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to identify how the housing poverty affects the elderly depression. As the elderly stays relatively longer than younger age due to the retirement, the inferior housing environment may affect the elderly depression. This study presented the housing poverty as an environmental factor that influences elderly depression, to contribute to elderly housing welfare policy to improvement of elderly quality of life. For this study, the current states of housing poverty and elderly depression in Korea was examined, followed by the analysis of the effects of housing poverty on elderly depression.
Housing poverty is the concept includes 'housing minimum standards' insufficiency that is the physical properties of a housing, and 'housing expenditures' insufficiency that is the economic properties in this study. This study used the third Korean Welfare Panel Study, which is nationally sampled data. For the analysis, regression analysis was conducted. The influence of housing poverty on the elderly depression was examined, and then the influence of each subfactors were examined. The results are as follow.
First, the overall housing poverty includes the housing minimum standards and housing expenditures standard shortage showed statistically significant effects on the elderly depression. This effect was significant after controlled the factors which was known to have effects on the elderly depression. The depression of the elderly increased as the housing poverty comes serious. Second, the influences of each subfactors of the housing poverty on the elderly depression showed that two faceds among four subfactors had the statistically meaningful influences. The other two subfactors didn’t showed significant effects. Among the subfactors the highest influence was shown in the housing minimum standards with inadequate structure, function, environment, which have negative relationship with the elderly depression. The next was the housing minimum standards with inadequate facilities, it was also identified have the negative influence on the elderly depression. However, for the size and housing expenditures, the statistically significant influence did not show up. This is the part needed subsequent study for further investigation.
Based on the results of this study, it is proposed that the improvement of the housing poverty has to be made for the prevention of the depression of the elderly besides the factors has already known as cause of the depression. Also, the results suggest that the structure, function, and environment of the housing preferentially have to be improved. In the era of the elderly comes into the rapid increment of the population, the relation of the housing poverty with the depression of the elderly carries important meaning. This study will be able to be used as the ground materials for the development of welfare policy of the elderly that reduces the elderly depression and improves the quality of life.
