The study aims to verify the effects of the Bibliotherapy program on the Career Attitude Maturity Enhancement for middle school students. In this study, career attitude maturity was defined as individual's career attitude to perform the career-related tasks such as 'career design', 'career research', 'career selection' and 'career decision making' based on the understanding about ego and the world of jobs. Career attitude maturity in this investigation was operationally defined as the total scores on the five domains of career attitude maturity scale(Lee & Han, 1997).
With this aim, in 2009, the study selected 16 students from third graders at B public middle school located in D Metropolitan City who wanted participate in the program. 8 students were placed in an experimental group and 8 students in a control group.
For the experimental group, the study offered a Bibliotherapy program once a week by intern counselor who had obtained a Bibliotherapist certificate from The Korea Mind Educational Development Institute, and for the control group, the study offered nothing. The experimental group participated in twelve sessions of the Bibliotherapy program which was developed by the author. The duration of each session was 40 or 60 minutes consisting of eight main reading media and twelve subsidiary reading media. The study collected data on three different occasions: before the start of the program, on the last day of the program, five weeks after the end of the program. The measures used the Career Attitude Maturity Scale(Lee & Han, 1997).
For data analysis, the study used mixed design between tests and within the consultation groups(experimental group/control group) during the three test periods. The independent variable was a Bibliotherapy program and subordinate variables were the level of overall career attitude maturity and sub-factors.
The study conducted a pre-test, a post-test and a further-test for subordinate variables that showed a statistical differences as a result One-way ANOVA by using Turkey HSD. The study employed a SPSS for windows 12.0 for statistical processing, and the statistical significance level was set at .05 for verifying an assumption.
The result were as follows : The experimental group was higher than the control group in the level of overall career attitude maturity and in sub-areas. Therefore, the Bibliotherapy program has proven to be successful in improving career attitude maturity for middle school students.
