This study aimed to examine the relationship among perceived parenting attitude, achievement motivation and subjective well-being with gifted children. A sample of 330 gifted students in elementary schools located in Gyeong-gi area was surveyed. Results from the self-report questionnaire were analyzed using the SPSS 17.0.
First, this study examined how gifted child’s achievement motivation affects their subjective well-being in terms of self-efficacy and negative emotion. The result indicated that the child’s achievement motivation had significant positive relationship with self-efficacy but not with negative emotion.
Second, child report of parents' affectionate attitude had significant positive relationship with children’s self-efficacy and a significant negative relationship with negative emotion. There was significant difference between maternal and paternal controlling attitude on children's subjective well-being. Fathers’ controlling attitude had significant positive relationship with children’s negative emotion but had no significant relationship with their self-efficacy. On the other hand, mothers’ controlling attitude had significant negative relationship with children’s self-efficacy. It also had significant negative relationship with their self-efficacy.
Third, neither fathers’ nor mothers’ rearing attitude had any significant mediating effect between child's achievement motivation and self-efficacy.
