This study has its purpose in examining the method of approach of learning coaching and effects following the DISC behavior pattern through in-depth interviews with parents of elementary school students who start to establish study habits. Also, this study has its meaning that seek the plan to contribute to utilization and revitalization of learning coaching follow the DISC behavior pattern and providing basis data about the development of coaching programs and education through this.
This study paid attention to the DISC behavior pattern, learning coaching and study support behavior on the basis of this purpose of study, and the summary of the general contents of the study is as follows.
Recently many experts are trying to satisfy various educational expectations within the roles of parents and the relationship with children in the high enthusiasm for education and the high level of expectations for education of Korea. Parents are paying attention to training their children as talents that attract attention in this society through study support behavior with a desirable outlook on education. It is suggested that the method which children themselves can conduct self-actualization is coaching. The degree of attention of parents and the study support of children are very closely connected with each other and have many relations with the changes and development of the overall living. The concern about coaching is increasing and it is influencing much, and therefore this study analyzed qualitative data about behavior pattern and study support with mothers of school-age children and examined the disposition of the subject through the DISC behavior pattern. This study inquired into the method for the application of another learning coaching to the DISC behavior pattern and the recognition of the effects of the learning coaching of parents to children case by case and groped a plan to utilize and revitalize learning coaching. First, how are the behavior pattern and study support behavior of parents? Second, how is applied to learning coaching follow the behavior pattern of parents? Third, how is the recognition of effects of parents about the application of learning coaching follow the behavior pattern of parents? This study examined the DISC behavior pattern about these questions, conducted learning coaching and verified by them.
This study was conducted in-depth interviews with 6 parents of elementary school students. This study collected data through the questionnaire, two in-depth interviews and ex post facto telecoaching. This study recorded the contents of interviews and framed transcripts and thereby analyzed for collection and analysis of accurate data. This study increased the accuracy when first interview by using the questionnaire and conducting the o-ring test for the examination of the DISC behavior pattern and it was possible an in-depth understanding about study support behavior of subject, thereby ask open-type questions. On the basis of it presented a concrete learning coaching skill that suits the degree of demand of the subject. And then, subject applied the learning coaching skill, and they studied the reponses of parents and the effects about applying of learning coaching when second interview are as follows.
The distribution follow the DISC representative behavior pattern was 3 in Pattern I, 2 in Pattern S and 1 in Pattern C and nothing is applied to Pattern D. Pattern I is permissive parents with active expression of affection and they were friendly with others. However, due to inconsistent instruction, they wanted right study habits and concentration to enhanced in the degree of demand of study. The "SMART principle" and the "SQRW for directions for reading" for consistent attitude of parents and establishment of a concrete goal were applied as the method of approach of learning coaching and thereby the effects of the coaching were positively deduced. Pattern S is parents who give the feeling of stability and pay careful attention to their children, they showed low expectations for study of their children. Therefore, "The leader that grows dreams" was applied as the learning coaching skill drew with the active and practical attitude of parents. As a result they showed positive expectations for coaching but not the sense of obligation. This is a verification of short-term effects, and therefore the long-term effects are expected. Pattern C is parents who are cautious and calm, and intend to grow perfect children. They were polite but were sparing with praise. They showed positive effects as a result of application of coaching on the basis of trust for their children through the "listening technique" and the "recognition technique".
The conclusion that is obtained by generalizing the results of the study is as follows. As a result of letting the parents set up the purpose of life, wish, value, trust and vision of children as a role of supporter, collaborator and defender through self-understanding through the analysis of disposition, setting up of dreams and goals, listening, questions, recognition, praise and the skill effects of messaging, the changes of behavior such as induction of motives for study, accomplishment of studies, encouragement of a sense of purpose, establishment of values, passion and respect for others and so on were brought.
