A fast-changing economic growth and industrial structure can make advancement in society for married women. A great change of child-rearing function, from family continuing to reach deeper into social and national field, cause growing necessity of educare. As a result the job satisfaction of educare teachers, spending long hours with infants and affecting infants' development, is mightily important factor for quality of educare. There are a lot of factors effecting on quality of educare, but there is significant educare teachers' role differences depending on the age of infants. This study was to identify the tendency of job satisfaction focusing on the job stress and exhaustion of educare teachers in toddler class and educare teachers in young child class.
Subjects of this study were 280 educare teachers working in 40 nurseries located in Seoul, Gyeonggi, Incheon provonce. The survey of
this study was composed of questions for general characteristic of teachers and used rating scale for job satisfaction, job stress and exhaustion of the educare teachers in toddler class and young child class. The collected data was analyzed according to t-test and linear regression analysis.
Conclusions drawn from the analyses are as follows.
Firstly, the overall tendency of job satisfaction for educare teachers in toddler class and young child class was that the educare teachers in young child class appeared higher than the educare teachers in toddler class. It means that the educare teachers in young child class satisfy their job. Looking into sub-factors, the educare teachers in young child class appeared higher than the educare teachers in toddler class on value and external factors.
Secondly, the overall tendency of job stress for educare teachers in toddler class and young child class was that the educare teachers in young child class appeared higher than the educare teachers in toddler class. It means that the educare teachers in young child class have more stress in their job. Looking into sub-factors, the educare teachers in young child class appeared higher than the educare teachers in toddler class on work-related and administrative assistant factors. Meanwhile, the educare teachers in toddler class appeared higher in parent-related factor.
The most stressful factor for educare teachers showed work-related as excessive working hours, tasks and busy work besides teaching. Many educare teachers had difficulties through long working hours and excessive busy work besides caring and teaching. The second stressful factor for educare teachers showed economy-related as low pay, bonus and floating paydays. So many educare teachers are not satisfy with their pay and working condition corresponding to their excessive work.
Thirdly, the overall tendency of exhaustion for educare teachers in toddler class and young child class was that the educare teachers in young child class appeared slightly higher than the educare teachers in toddler class but there was no significant difference statistically. Looking into sub-factors, the educare teachers in young child class appeared higher than the educare teachers in toddler class on emotional exhaustion. It means that the educare teachers in young child class feel more emotional exhaustion. On the other hand the educare teachers in toddler class appeared higher than educare teachers in young child class in the mean of chronic fatigue.
Fourthly, there were overall significant correlations in job satisfaction between the educare teachers in toddler class and the educare teachers in young child class according to job stress and exhaustion. Looking into independent variable, there was significant difference for the educare teachers in toddler class on private-related factor statistically, on the other hand, for the educare teachers in young child class on all factors like activity factor with children, administrative assistant factor, teacher-related factor, parent-related factor, private-related factor, chronic fatigue and exhaustion statistically.
