This study aims to create basic materials for education of speech act of complaining by examining the effect that Korean language education has on actualization phase of speech act of complaining of learners and by comparing those Chinese leaners (CK) who learn Korean language in Korea and those Chinese leaners (CC) who learn Korean language in China with those whose mother tongue is Korean (K).
The ultimate goal of person who learns foreign language is to communicate well with native speakers of target language. The importance and necessity of speech act in foreign language learning to improve communication skill were already emphasized through a lot of studies and in Korean language education, studies of speech activities have been actively conducted. However, studies of speech act of complaining that most threats prestige of listeners are very insufficient and previous studies of speech act have concentrated on mother tongue of learners. However, as the history of Korean language education is approximately 50 years, the need to give differentiated education according to increase in Korean language education abroad has increased. Hereupon, this study aims to contribute to helping those who have different learning environment by examining the effect that Korean language education abroad on actualization phase of speech act of complaining that needs high suitability in relations between speakers and listeners and by comparing those chinese learners who learn Korean language in Korea and those Chinese learners who learn Korea language in China with those mother tongue is Korean. Detailed procedure for this study is as follows.
In chapter 2, various theories related to this study were described systematically to create to theoretical basis. Framework for analyzing experimental result was constructed on the basis of minus politeness expression process model (Mizushima Hiroko, 2003) and complaint strategy of various previous studies.
In chapter 3, information on experiment in this study was mentioned. Discourse completion test (DCT) and situation awareness questionnaire (SAQ) were used as experimental tool. !80 college students and graduate students aged twenties were selected for experiment. 36 situations of complaint that were constructed by well compounding situational variables, intimacy and social status based on 6 types of Homes(1990)'s offense were used for 'preliminary examination for extracting situation of complaint' to enhance the quality of questionnaire and through it, 12 situations of complaint were extracted and experiment was conducted by applying DCT that was supplemented through preliminary experiment.
In chapter 4, experimental result was compared and analyzed by social variable and situation. In analysis by variable according to intimacy and social status for actualization phase of speech act of complaining , CK was placed between K and CC in frequency of complaint, degree of complaint, expression method of complaint and burden of expression. In analysis about sentence that was used for actual expression of complaint, CK was placed between K and CC. In analysis situational analysis about 6 offenses of Homes(1990), CK was placed between K and CC in actualization phase of speech act of complaining. This result means Korean language education in Korea has a great influence on leaners.
In chapter 5, process and result of this study were summarized and study limitation was mentioned. Through this study, characteristics of learners of Korean language in Korea and China in actualization phase of ‘speech act of complaining ’ and it was found that CK was closer to discourse aspect of Koreans than CC. Despite limitation this study has, this study has significance as basic data for speech act education of Korean language considering that this study was research on speech act that concentrated on learning environment that was not mother tongue of learners and subject of this study was Chinese to whom the number of research on speech act of complaining was very small
