The present study purposed to survey the staff of childcare-centers that had been accredited in 2010 concerning their perception on the accreditation system and the operation process, maintenance and management of the system and to suggest plans for the effective execution and systematic maintenance and management of the accreditation system. For these purposes, the research questions as follows:
1) Does the perception on the system of the accreditation have differences according to the independent variables(types of center)?
2) Does the management on the system of the accreditation have differences according to the independent variables(types of center)?
3) Does the perception and management on the system of the accreditation have relations according to the independent variables(types of center)?
The instrument of this study was based on Kim's Study(2007) for find perception and management. It was recomposed from the guidelines which be presented by the accreditation office. The questionnaire was verified contents validity by professional for early childhood education. The contents of questionnaires are what is perception, change, effect, plans of improvement of the system of the accreditation of the childcare centers and what efforts to make to maintain and management after the accreditation according to indexes.
Study subjects were center of under capacity 39 and center of over capacity 39, including, Kang Dong Gu, Song Pa Gu, Seong Dong Gu, Kwang Jin Gu, in Seoul and Pyung Taek City, in Kyung Gi, Cheon An City, along with Asan City District in Chungnam Province. Collected data were statistically processed with the statistical package program of SPSS 12.0 for Windows after the process of data coding and data cleaning.
Study results are as follows:
First, after examining the perception of after accreditation, center of over capacity 40 gave higher perception to the part of effect of accreditation, welfare of teacher, and management compared to the center of under capacity 39.
According to the center of over capacity 40, perception of accreditation has differences. Also Private-center's staff has low perception. So Private-center's staff needed education for shift of perception
Second, after examining the management of after accreditation by facility size, according to the center of under capacity 39, the part of childcare-curriculum is highest rating in management. And the part of interaction and teaching is lowest rating. After examining the management of after accreditation by facilities's type, All facilities's type has not differences each other.
After examining the management of after accreditation by facility size, according to the center of over capacity 40, the part of childcare-environment is highest rating in management. And the part of safety is lowest rating. After examining the management of after accreditation by facilities's type, non-profit and private center is highest rating, and public/national center is lowest rating.
About the effects after the accreditation, most of them were positive in the accreditation system for the improvement of a qualitative level of centers. and there were also an improvement of the centers and their speciality, the positive changes of childcare program and educational process, and high perception in the community.
Third, after examining the correlation between perception and management of after accreditation by facility size, according to the center of under capacity 39, there is correlation between health and nutrition. Also according to the study result, environment and management in childcare's management ability is evaluated by how high their perception(welfare of teacher, support for management, level of management) level is. According to the center of over capacity 40, environment in childcare is evaluated by how high their perception(welfare of teacher, support for management, level of management) level is.
Childcare teacher is a key-component for improve childcare. Therefore, teacher need to self-ripening by the accreditation system. Such an accreditation system would provide the best possible childcare service to children
