This aim of this study is to examine the effect of group art therapy for the Chinese college students with adjustment disorders. Subjects were 5 students who were attended at the P college in AnHui city. Those subjects were selected by the Symptom Checklist90(SCL-90) as a personality test from 80 students. The guideline of selection of the subject was over 170 in the total score of SCL-90. For 10 subjects selected at first test, final 5 subjects were chosen by the further interview each.
Effects of the group art therapy compared the score of SCL-90 between the pre-therapy and the post-therapy, and examined the qualitative changes on the Kinetic School Drawing,
Results of this research were as follows:
1. Group art therapy was effective to reduce the negative symptoms of the SCL-90 scale; especially, obsessive-compulsion, inter- relationship, depression, anxiety, aggression, phobia, paranoid, schizoid symptom, and sleep/eating habits. However, the somatic symptom was not effectively change.
2. On the Kinetic School Drawing(KSD), qualitative aspects of the picture were changed from the loneliness, separation, an compartmentalization to the expression of the inter-relationship, the co-activity, and the warm situations.
This study was applied only a college student group so that it could be cautious to generalize results to the other cases. It needs more studies to examine the effect of group art therapy further.
