The purpose of this study is to find out how the Commander's leadership style affects the morale of members of the organization and also to maximize the morale of troops in order to promote unity of forces which requires military commanders to provide expected leadership and rules for conducting effective leadership for guiding management.
In order to investigate the theoretical background - concepts of leadership and theories, concepts of morale and related factors, and the specificity and relevance of military morale and leadership - Transformational and Transactional leadership requirements were selected as independent variables, and requirements for military morale were selected as dependent variables. Next, the research model was designed and hypotheses were set up, 300 men were surveyed for empirical study.
The hypotheses confirmation results are as follows. 1. The influence of military commander's leadership style showed that motivated exertion, personal care, intellectual stimulation out of transformational leadership factors had positive (+) effects on the military morale. 2. The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that exceptional management out of transactional leadership factors had positive (+) effects on the military morale. When there is more motivation out of transformational leadership factors, more enthusiasm is shown. 3. The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that only the individual care out of transformational leadership factors had positive (+) effects on relationships with colleagues. 4. The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that motivation, individual care, and intellectual stimulus out of transformational leadership factors had positive (+) effects on belongingness. 5. The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that compensation for achievement out of transactional leadership factors had positive (+) effects on identity. 6. The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that charisma out of transformational leadership factors had positive (+) effects on the faith in the boss. Also, individual care and intellectual stimulus out of transformational leadership factors showed positive (+) effects on the faith in the boss.
When confirming hypotheses, transformational leadership factors, rather than transactional ones showed more effects. Accordingly, it has been confirmed that transformational leadership has more positive effects on military morale rather than transactional ones. Thus, effective leadership of military organization is required in order to change the value and faith of subordinates that could adapt and lead the transformation of its organization.
Also, after having positive investigation on this experiment, following suggestions were made.
Firstly, The influence of military commander’s leadership style showed that transformational leadership rather than the transactional one is more effective in the morale of the members of the organization. Secondly, military commander should show faith and vision so that the members can exert faith and obedience. The survey has shown that the more boss has charisma, the more they have faith in him. This shows that transformational leadership – that makes charismatic management possible – is effective. Also, the type of leadership that makes the members of the organization possible to feel certain amount of individual care and responsibility showed that it is more effective in military morale.
However, it shows that unbiased and well-founded rule for controlling and rewarding/punishing is required for managing organization.
