해방공간의 출판계와 위인전 = (The)study on the trends of publishing industry and the biographies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 위인전이 근대 이후 엘리트들의 의제와 역사인식을 대중에게 효과적으로 암시·전달하며 대중을 효과적으로 규율화하는 수단이라는 점에 유념하고 있다. 이 같은 문제의식 하에서 본 연구는 해방이후부터 대한민국정부 수립까지의 출판계와 당대 출간된 위인전에 주목하여 당대의 위인 담론의 전체 지형을 역사적 맥락을 통해 살펴보았다.
해방공간은 국제질서의 변화와 함께 과거 시스템의 전면적인 재편과 함께 탈식민시기 일제의 청산과 더불어 근대 민족국가 건립에 대한 요구와 필요가 대두되는 시기였다. 식민지 해방은 엘리트와 대중의 폭팔적인 관심을 촉진하며 곧 출판계의 해방으로 이어졌다. 이러한 시대상황을 반영하여 당대 언론·출판계는 근대담론을 생산하는 장이자 정치적 공간으로 부상하였으며 그 과정에서 탈식민시기 새로운 위인담론이 생산되었다. 이러한 시대적 상황과 당대의 정치‧사회권력의 헤게모니 경쟁과 충돌과정에 유의하면서 위인전과 해방공간의 역사들을 긴밀히 연결시켜 파악하는 것이 본 연구의 의의이다.
해방공간의 위인전은 탈식민시기 근대국민국가를 건립해나가는 과정에서 과거 일제의 잔재청산과 민족정신 고취라는 당대의 시대정신을 반영하여 생산되었다. 그러나 그 생산 과정에서 당대 위인담론은 전후 국제사회를 지배하는 미·소의 대립구도과 그에 따른 국제질서의 변화, 한국에서 지배권을 확립해가는 미국적 서구주의와 같은 당대 지배질서 안에 대중을 순치시키려는 엘리트들의 인식을 반영하며 복합적으로 구성되었다. 당대 출간된 위인전의 인물유형과 표상화 작업은 이러한 정치·사회적 이해관계의 충돌과 갈등을 반영하고 있었다. 이렇듯 해방공간의 위인담론이 당대의 상이한 역사와 사회인식이 상호 병존하며 충돌하는 양상은 바로 탈식민지 해방공간의 현실과 다름 아니다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study looks into the biographies of great historical figures as effective means to deliver the agendas and historical views of opinion leaders to the people, and to discipline the people effectively during modernized era. From the perspective mentioned above, this study is focusing on the publishing industry and the biographies between Korean Liberation(1945) and Establishment of Korean Government(1948) in order to understand the whole map of discussions of the biographies in the historical context.
After Korea Liberation, a lot of solutions for urgent problems, such as liquidation of the vestiges of Japanese Imperialism, total reconstruction of the-old-days system, and establishment of a modern nation state, were highly required and demanded through the change of international order. The Korea Liberation, which resulted in huge amount of concern of both elite groups and people in the press and publication, delivered the liberation of publishing industry. Reflecting the situation, the society of the press and publishing groups had became the political place for modern discussions, and as a result, new types of discussions in the biographies were made in the complicated circumstances resulting from Liberation.
This study has its meaning because it could deepen our understanding of the relations between the biographies and historical factors in the liberated situation in the context of the political power groups' competition for the hegemony.
The biographies were made for the goals like liquidating the vestiges of Japanese Imperialism or arousing national consciousness in the reflection of the spirit of the age in process of establishing a modern government. However, the discussions were constructed complexly in the relation with competitive composition of the two powers, which is The U.S and The Soviet that dominated the world after World War Ⅱ, the changes of the international order, western democracy which had secured the initiative in Korea, the consciousness of elite groups which was willing to habituate the people. The changes of biographical figures and symbols in biographies at that time reflected the conflicts and collision between political and societal interest.
Therefore, it is concluded that the biographical discussions after Korean Liberation reflected the coexistence or conflicts of different historical consciousness and social consciousness, which was nothing less than the chaotic realities of liberated Korea after Japanese Imperialism.
