The aim of this thesis is to look into the relations between athletic performance during maximal exercise load and electrolytes in the body by analyzing changes in the densities of blood lactic acids and electrolyte before and after maximal exercise load on a treadmill according to the intake of water and ionic alkaline water.
As the study method, this study has selected 10 healthy males majoring in physical education in S university located in Gyeonggi province as the subjects. The selected group was given the first test (water intake), and one week later the same group was given the second test (alkaline water intake). As the test methods, maximal exercise load was conducted on a treadmill by using Bruce Protocol, and blood-gathering was carried out before and after the exercise as well as during recovery. Regarding analysis items, the study compared and analyzed the densities of lactic acids and electrolytes such as Na+, K+, Ca++, Cl-, and Mg++ included in water as different contents. The following conclusions are obtained.
First, according to the comparison with the densities of blood electrolytes such as Na+, K+, Ca++, Cl-, and Mg++, the intake of both water and alkaline water showed increase in the density of electrolytes right after exercise equivalently, and the density gradually became restored to the stable state. Second, changes in the density of blood lactic acids increased right after exercise, the same with the changes in the density of electrolytes, and the density became stable during restoration. However, the intake of alkaline water created smaller amount of lactic acids in blood than water intake. This shows that the intake of alkaline water has a positive effect on the prevention and removal of lactic acids, accompanying fatigue factors during exercise, which is the most noticeable finding in this study.
