The purpose of this study was to verify the correlation among career stress, academic self-efficacy and career decision-making level, and see if career stress was mediator between academic self-efficacy and career decision-making level. Participants were 439 high-school students in Busan. They were asked to complete academic self-efficacy scale, career stress test and career decision-making level test.
The data was analyzed by Pearson Correlation Analysis and Stepwise Multiple regression to verify correlation and by Simple regression and Hierarchical regression analyses to verify mediating effects by using the SPSS 12.0 program.
The results of this research were summarized as follows : First, confidence, self-regulated efficacy and task difficulty preferences, which were the components of academic self-efficacy, showed positive correlation with career decision-making level. Second, confidence, self-regulated efficacy and task difficulty preferences ,which were the components of academic self-efficacy, showed negative correlation with career stress of general factor and career stress of family background factor which were the components of career stress. Third, when career stress as mediation variable was controlled, the effect of academic self-efficacy was reduced. This result indicated that career stress had mediated effects on the relationship between academic self-efficacy and career decision-making level.
On the basis of the study results above, the conclusions are that confidence and self-regulated efficacy, which are the components of academic self-efficacy, have positive effects on career decision-making as a motivational factors according to the career decision-making level, That career stress has mediated academic self-efficacy and career decision-making level means if student was given career stress, self-regulated efficacy would be fallen by depression, anxiety and so on, confidence be reduced. It leads to have negative effects on career decision-making of high school students. So career stress test is necessary because it is important variable that could influence during career counseling. Based on the findings, limitations of the current study and the suggestions for further research were offered.
