농촌 유아들의 지역도서관 체험에 관한 문화기술적 연구 = Ethnographic Study of Children in Rural Areas Experiences at the Local Library

Based on an ethnographic approach, this study analyzes the changes in children in rural areas' perceptions of the library and in their attitudes towards reading following their experiencing of the local library. To this end, the following research questions were established.
1) What are children in rural areas perceptions of the local library?
2) What impact can experiences at the local library provide in terms of the reading habits of children in rural areas?
The experimental group consisted of 7 children from a kindergarten which was attached to H Elementary School in J town, Masan City. The research was carried out over 32 weeks, or from the first week of April to the third week of December 2009. The children implemented the experiential activities during visits to the public library and the library within the local elementary school. The research materials were collected through interviews with the children, an observation log, journals, and object representation. The materials were then analyzed using a triangulation method.
The results of this study can be summarized as follows:
First, it was revealed that the pleasant experiences at the local library helped the children to perceive the library as a space where various experiences could be had. In this regard, the library was perceived as a new space, a reading space, and a cultural space.
Second, the reading activities conducted at the local library helped to strengthen children's motivation to read. This greatly influenced the formation of their reading habits. Pleasant experiences at the local library helped the children to develop creativity through various reading activities, and to make it a habit of spontaneously and regularly reading as part of their everyday lives.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 농촌 유아들의 지역도서관 체험활동을 통하여 도서관에 대한 인식과 독서태도 변화에 어떠한 양상을 보이는지 알아보기 위하여 질적 연구 방법인 문화기술적 연구를 통하여 기술하였다. 연구문제는 다음과 같다.
1) 지역 도서관에 대한 농촌유아들의 인식은 어떠한가?
2) 지역도서관 체험은 농촌 유아들의 책읽기에 어떤 영향을 미치는가?
연구 참여자는 경상남도 마산시 J면에 위치한 H초등학교 병설유치원의 유아 7명(만5세 2명, 만4세 2명, 만 3세 3명)으로서, 2009년 4월1주부터 12월 3주까지 총 32주 동안 지역의 공공도서관과 초등학교 도서관을 방문하여 체험활동을 실시하였다.
연구 자료는 도서관 체험 활동에서의 유아활동 녹화 전사자료, 면담 전사자료, 관찰기록물, 교사저널, 유아들의 표상활동 자료, 사진자료 등을 수집하였다. 자료 분석은 수집된 자료를 분류분석의 단계를 거쳐 객관성과 신뢰성을 높이기 위해 ‘삼각측정법’을 사용하였다.
본 연구의 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다.
첫째, 유아들은 지역도서관에서의 즐거운 경험을 통하여 도서관을 다양한 체험의 공간 즉, 새로운 공간, 독서 공간, 문화 공간으로 인식하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.
둘째, 유아들은 지역도서관에서의 책읽기 활동을 통하여 독서에 대한 동기유발이 강화되었으며 이는 독서의 습관화에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 지역도서관에서의 신선한 체험은 다양한 책읽기를 통해 창의성이 발달하고 일상생활에서 자발적이고 지속적으로 책읽기를 할 수 있게 하였다.
이상과 같이 지역도서관 체험은 문화적으로 소외된 농촌지역의 유아들에게 다양한 경험을 제공하고 책읽기에 대한 동기유발을 통하여 바람직한 독서태도를 길러준 것으로 나타났다.
