In the korean economy, the female economic activity rate is much lower than the overall economic activity rate. This fact means that the condition of the korean-female labor market is not good. In this article, I would like to explore the women's employment activity specially focusing on the education gap.
In order to study, I use the sample data of the population census surveyed in 2005. Also I analyze the statistical result through the logit model and the least-squares model . In these models, I regard the employment rate, high income industry, the decent job as the dependent variables to measure labor market activity. Also I consider age and the level of education as the independent variables.
In conclusion, the low background women's employment possibility decreases as the age become higher. Also, the low background women's possibility of working on the "decent job" is lower as the age increases. It shows that there appears the 'harsh screening' situation in the female labor market based on the education gap.
Surely, this result is explained by the 'human capital' theory. Generally thinking , the low background women has lower capacity than the high background women. So the low background women hold weak bargaining power in the labor market.
Besides , we can understand the result through 'insider-outsider' model. If most insiders are the high-educated, they would collude with supervisors. Therefore, we should use various ways to improve the low background women's labor activity.
