This study aims to verify the effects of the Group Art Therapy Program on social skills of single parents children.
The hypothesis of this study is as follows :
First, Group Art Therapy Program would enhance social skills of social skills of single parents children.
Second, Group Art Therapy Program would enhance subordinated fields of social skills, such as cooperation, assertion, empahty, self-control ability.
The subjects of this study were 10 single parents children(experimental group) who are enrolled in after school classroom for community welfare center at D area of Dae-gu, and 10 single parents children(control group) who are enrolled in area child protection center at H area of D province. This study was conducted twice a week for 6 weeks , each session for 90 minutes.
In data analysis, based on pre-test, post-test, and further-test were conducted in order to specify the effects of the experiment, and SPSS for Window 12.0 is used for One-way ANOVA to make an analysis of the results with the statistical significance level set at 0.5.
From the results of the experiment, the conclusion of this study is as follows :
Group Art Therapy Program enhances overall social skills of single parents children, and also subordinate fields, such as, cooperation, assertion, empathy, self-control ability are enhanced.
This study has shown that the Group Art Therapy Program which was applied for elementary school students with single parents is effective for their social skills enhancement. Therefore, this study is meaningful in that the participation in The Group Art Therapy Program could help children have self expression by means of unconscious thought, emotion and feeling, and have self-satisfaction and self-fulfillment by means of completing their products. Also, Group Art Therapy Program could help children enhance social relationship and adjustment ability, and have self assessment about their own value higher than.
But, the further study related to this issues would be followed.
First, generalization fo effect of Group Art Therapy Program on social skills of single parents children. The further study, therefore, will be executed differences between the results of different area, age sexuality, number of participants, and period of test
Second, this study was conducted with same measures during pre-test, post-test, and further-test. So, this study couldn't eliminate effect of re-test with same test instruments.
Hopefully, the further study eliminatiing effect of learning on test instruments would be executed.
Third, other previous studies, Group Art Therapy Program could enhancement of social skills, but some studies couldn't show that subordinated fields of social skills have statistical significance. To make consistence of effect, Group Art Therapy Program would be and developed and executed more specific subordinated fields of social skills.
