The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Emotional Intelligence Development Program for elementary school students on emotional quotient and self-esteem.
The hypothesis of this study are as follows :
First, the Emotional Intelligence Development Program for elementary school students will improve students' emotional quotient and its sub-factors : self-regulation and utilization, perception of emotion, other-regulation and self-expression, and empathy.
Second, the Emotional Intelligence Development Program for elementary school students will improve students' self-esteem and its sub-factors : scholastic competence, athletic competence, social acceptance, physical appearance, behavioral conduct, and general self-worth.
The subjects for this study were 20 students who are in the 6th grade or G elementary school in Daegu. And they selected by their gender, divided into experimental group, control group(10 students per each group). For experimental group, Emotional Intelligence Development Program was performed at 11 times for 50-60 minutes.
The scale of emotional quotient used in this study was the 『Emotional Intelligences Scale』developed by Park, Choi & Park, 2000. The scales of Self-Esteem was Self-Esteem measurement by Park young ae(1995).
This study used Split-Plot Factorial Design and all sorts of data are analysed by SPSS for Windows 12.0. the statistically significant level was set at .05.
The effects of Emotional Intelligence Development program were examined on the basis of pre-test and post test scores by emotional quotient test and Self-Esteem Profile for Children.
From the results of the experiment, the conclusion of this study is as fallow :
First, Emotional Intelligence Development program was effective on increase of emotional quotient and its sub-factors.
Second, Emotional Intelligence Development program showed significant increase on Self-esteem and its sub-factors.
In this study, Emotional Intelligence Development program was effective on increase of emotional quotient and self-esteem of children, therefore, if we have continuous emotional intelligence training by developing Emotional Intelligence Development program which is useful for curriculum in educational chart, it would be effective to increase their emotional intelligence and self-esteem.
