This study was tried to examine the effect of cooperative play on the peer relationship of preschoolers with withdrawal.
The followings are the goals of this study:
First, to examine the effect of cooperative play on the peer relationship of preschoolers with withdrawal.
Second, to confirm if the effect of cooperative play on the peer relationship of preschoolers with withdrawal would continue after the completion of intervention.
This study employed the following method. Having selected two children whose withdrawal behavior scale of the K-CBCL(Korean children behavior checklist) is over 70T, this study employed the multiple baselines across subjects design. Then, The cooperative play program was implemented in order to promote a peer relationship of these two children by promoting their peer-to-peer mutual action. Also, after the period of baseline and intervention, changes in their peer relationship was observed. Then, a week after the completion of intervention, whether this peer relationship had been maintained under the same condition as the baseline period was observed. Visual analysis by graph was adopted to analyze of frequency distribution of target behavior.
The result of this study is as follows:
First, the cooperative play was effective in improving the peer relationship of preschooler with withdrawal.
Second, the changes in their peer relationship caused by the intervention of cooperative play were maintained even after the completion of intervention.
In conclusion, this study revealed that, if teachers discover the withdrawn personality in children during the early stage and employ an intervention program using cooperative play, such children will be able to improve the peer relationship with other children spontaneously.
