The Way to improve vocabulary ability through reading a novel.
The ability of an abundant vocabulary is an important and basic part. In addition, it is the start of Korean education. Futhermore, vocabulary ability can not be separated from speaking, listening, reading, and writing in the process of using a real language. If the vocabulary ability is weak, it is not only impossible to utter a proper and abundant expression, but also difficult to understand exactly and profoundly. Therefore, the ability is extremely important. However, teenagers have many of the problems with the vocabulary ability in spite of its importance. This study is to find the ways to improve the vocabulary ability, analyze the contents related to the vocabulary of the Korean textbook within the renewed education process and vocabulary instruction in the process of Korean department education.
Literature works are chosen as the ways to make the vocabulary education interesting and to train abundant vocabulary ability. Literature works which are irrelevant to the life of human beings give the best opportunity to learn the vocabulary effectively and the meanings of vocabulary acquired naturally make the learners remember for far longer term than the way to memorize the words simply. The novel <Bom Bom> out of literature works includes native tongues which have been already disappeared or forgotten. The Korean words which are peculiar and sensible are plentifully used by the author so that her work is chosen as both instruction and learning materials for vocabulary expansion in real situation.
The subjects are the third graders in the middle school. The class was proceeded based on the three stages of basic examples, which are composed of brainstorming, understanding, and generalizing. However, the limits of this study are that the stages are only three, test period is short term and the subjects are the small group of the senior in the middle school. I wish I could test more students coming from a variety of areas. Furthermore, there was lack of dealing with other works of Kim U Jeong. Further study is needed to compare the improvement of vocabulary ability through a novel with other literature works and non-literature works.
