    The purpose of this study was to investigate the interaction Effects of communication with parents and quality of friendship on adolescents’ loneliness, school maladjustment & depression. Subjects of this study consisted of 758 adolescents drawn from 4 middle schools in Cheong-ju city. The pilot study was used to examine the applicability of survey instrument. Data were analyzed by the methods frequency, percentage, Cronbach's α, t-test, F-test, Tukey(b) post-hoc test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical regression using SPSSWIN 12.0 program.

    The results of this study were as follows:
    First, parental communication was different by general background. Girls experienced more closed communication than boys. and students who had higher family income communicated with their parents more openly than those who had lower family income.
    Second, adolescents’ quality of friendship was different by general background. Girls perceived more emotional support and sharing daily life with friends than boys. On the other side, Girls highly perceived more conflicts in friends than boys. And students had higher family income experienced more emotional support than those who had lower family income.
    Third, adolescents’ loneliness was different by general background. Girls showed more highly perception on the lack of belongingness and intimacy than boys. But boys showed more highly perception the lack of support network than girls. And third grade felt more highly perception the lack of support network than first grade. Students whose mother had a job more experienced the lack of belongingness than the others. In accordance with region, students had no region more experienced the lack of belongingness and support network than the others. And students had lower family income more perceived the lack of intimacy and support network than the others.
    Fourth, there were significant differences in adolescents’ school maladjustment according to general background. boys showed more school maladjustment than girls.
    Fifth, adolescents’ depression was different by general background. Girls showed more highly perception on depression than boys. And older students perceived more depression than freshmen.
    Sixth, in the case of boys, the lack of adolescents’ support network was predicted by open communication with parents, conflict of friends, emotional support in friends and sharing daily life. And, in the case of girls, the lack of adolescents’ support network was predicted by open and closed communication with parents, conflict in friends, sharing daily life.
    Seventh, the lack of adolescents’ belongingness was predicted by as follows; in the case of boys, those are open and closed communication with parents, conflict in friends, sharing daily life. In the case of girls, those are open and closed communication with parents, sharing daily life.
    Eighth, the lack of adolescents’ intimacy was predicted by as follows; in the case of boys, those are closed communication with parents, conflict in friends. In the case of girls, those are open communication with parents, sharing daily life.
    Ninth, adolescents’ school maladjustment was predicted by as follows; in the case of boys, those are open and closed communication with parents, conflict in friends, emotional support, the lack of belongingness, the lack of support network and the lack of intimacy. In the case of girls, those are open and closed communication with parents, conflict in friends, emotional support and the lack of support network.
    Tenth, adolescents’ depression was predicted by as follows; in the case of boys, those are closed communication with parents, conflict in friends, the lack of belongingness and school maladjustment.
