Doctors constantly struggle with where to allocate their resources and efforts in caring their patients to achieve patient satisfaction. This study was intended to analyze the effect of the service quality of doctor on patient satisfaction. Service quality of health care is known to be consist of two components. First one is clinical or technical medial care that emphasize 'what' the patient receives and the other is process performance that emphasize 'how' health care service are delivered to the patients. In this study author set the doctor's expertise-professionalism- as clinical quality and the doctor's communication skills as process quality. Then this study measured the effect of these two independent variables on patient satisfaction through 2 parameter, which are 'trust of doctor by patient' and 'value sufficiency of patient'. Statistical results are as follows.
First, doctor's expertise and communication skills had positive effect on patient satisfaction via two parameter.
Second, effect of doctor's communication skills on 'trust of doctor 'and 'value sufficiency' is strong than that of the 'doctor's expertise'.
Third, 'value sufficiency of patient' had strong effect on patient satisfaction than that of 'trust of doctor'.
Fouth, in male, 'doctor's expertise' had strong effect on 'value sufficiency' than that of female. In female, communication skills had strong effect on 'value sufficiency' than that of male.
In male patients, doctor's communication skills had strong effect on 'trust of doctor' than that of female. In female, expertise had strong effect on 'trust of doctor' than that of female.
Fifth, effect of 'doctor's expertise' on 'trust of doctor' and 'value sufficiency' was stronger in elder age than that of younger age.
In elderly, communication skills of doctor had strong effect on 'value sufficiency' than that of younger age. In young age doctor's communication skills had strong effect on 'trust of doctor' than that of older age.
Sixth, in short hospital stay, doctor's expertise had strong effect on 'trust of doctor' and 'value sufficiency' than that of long hospital day. And in short hospital day communication ability had strong effect on trust of doctor and on value sufficiency in long hospital day
In conclusion, this study verified that doctor' expertise and communication skills had positive effect on patient satisfaction via two parameter which are 'trust of doctor' and 'value sufficiency' of patient. So medical service provider should always keep in mind with these concept.
