The purpose of this study is to investigate the awareness about the art of dance.
As the recent economic growth improves, culture has established itself as a core value in modern society. The public appetite for culture has been boosted, and cultural activities to meet this demand have been buoyant while the significance of the art of dance to satisfy the artistic desire of the public in general has been more stressed compared to the past. Nevertheless, the art of dance is outweighed by other cultural arts.
Dancing fulfills personal appetite through physical movement as well as physical and mental health while it also creates production of healthy society and healthy leisure. As a result, it might be an approach to qualitative development of our society in terms of being an effective tool to contribute to the overall welfare improvement of our nation.
In this study, the awareness about the art of dance was investigated with the target on male/female college students in Seoul area through the questionnaire.
This study processed and analyzed the data using SPSS 15.0 (Statistical Package for the Social Science) which is the statistics program.
Firstly, the frequency analysis was performed to examine the general characteristics of research targets.
Secondly, cross tabulation and independent samples T-test were performed to observe the difference in variables (gender, major validity) in accordance with awareness about the art of dance.
Regarding the general characteristics of the respondents, males are 200 (56.3%) and females are 155 (43.7%) in gender. In case of major validity, respondents with degree are 32 (9.0%) and those without degree are 323 (91.0%), resulting in larger number of those without degree.
By performing cross tabulation and independent samples T-test with variables (gender, major validity) to examine the awareness about the art of dance according to variables, the results are as follows.
Firstly, it turns out that it is more positive for those without degree over those with degree aboutthe awareness that dancing by dancers is a professionalartistic activity.
Secondly, it turns out that it is more positive for those with degree over those without degree about the awareness that dancing helps become beautiful and healthy.
Thirdly, it turns out that it is more positive for females over males and for those with degree over those without degree about the awareness that appreciate ability for dancing works improves by dancing.
Fourthly, it turns out that it is more positive for those with degree over those without degree about positive awareness on dancing as a job.
Fifthly, it turns out that it is more positive for females over males andthose with degree over those without degree about contribution to development of dance regarding males’ dancing.
Sixthly, it turns out that it is more positive for females over males and those with degree over those without degree about envy in looking at those good at dancing.
Seventhly, it turns out that it is more negative for males over females and those without degree over those with degree about recommendation if any male among relatives wants to dance.
Eighthly, it turns out that there is no meaningful difference in thought about recommendation if any female among relatives wants to dance according to gender or major validity.
Ninthly, the frequency going to dance theaters is higher for females over males and for those with degree over those without degree.
Tenthly, the number of years going to dance theatersis larger for females over males and for those with degree over those without degree.
