Today, it is getting more difficult for companies to work on every single business activity by themselves in this intense market environment, based on rapid change in business environment that includes globalization, diversification of consumer desires, shortened product life cycle and increased funding for research and development. In particular, there is constant change in the fashion industry, and the concept of "art collaboration in fashion design" is accelerating in the fashion world where the fashion is no longer "clothing", but a lifestyle and culture code.
The practical value of art collaboration in fashion design is being proven with high value added products being launched, and diverse consumer demands being satisfied. With this, various academic fields are approaching this subject matter. However, there is practically no research on collaboration in the fashion industry, especially between fashion and art, in Korea, at the moment. Hence, this purpose of this study is to go into the concept of art collaboration in fashion design and analyze the current state and successful cases in depth, to investigate the various marketing effects and strategies brought about by combining fashion with art.
To accomplish the purpose of this study, case analysis was conducted on art collaboration that made material and immaterial profit for companies and artists through the art medium and marketing strategies on fashion products, not just corporate or art activities. The case analysis was based on marketing with art pieces, collaboration with artist, and direct participation of artist in producing products.
As the result of analysis, there were various implications in the collaboration strategy through collaboration of fashion company, artist and art piece. In other words, art collaboration in fashion design increased sales by enhancing the image of companies through art, improving the efficiency of corporate activities, increasing the possibility of investment, maintaining customers in the market, acquiring cost premium, and raising brand recognition. At the same time, artists were able to attempt new changes to their work, as well as increase their social recognition and as a result, get more support from sponsors.
Consumers were also able to satisfy their aesthetic values and desires with rarity of design through products, and feel superior in their minds for , ning a piece of art. This means cooperation strategy between fashion cooperat and the artst andother words, collaboration, is not simply a strategic affiliation relation, but a new marketing paradigm for mutual win-win benefit.
Collaboration strategy that has various implications is relatively widespread in the field of fashion abroad, but there are not many studies on cases or its effects in Korea at the moment, so this study will be significant. But, due to the limits in case analysis, this study needs to be supplemented through factual study based on more substantial criterions.
