The purpose of this was to examine the subjects of this study are with 139 teachers from 12 accredited nurseries of national, public, private, and corporate child-care centers in Seoul and North Gyeongsang Province.
Measuring tools in this study included the revision and supplementation of the Teacher Involvement and Participation Scale Version-2 (TIP-2) manufactured by Lee (1999) and Russell and his colleagues (1992) in consideration of Korean circumstances was used to measure teachers' participation in decision-making and childcare center from of index 21 or more was used for child-care centers (Korean Childcare Accreditation Council, 2008) to determine accreditation index maintenance.
An SPSS (Statistics Program for Social Science) 11.0 program was used for the collected data, along with frequency analysis as basic statistical analysis. Statistical data on frequency, mean and standard deviation were obtained, and one-way ANOVA and Scheff? test were utilized
The results of this study were as follows;
First, as for the general trend of teachers' participation in decision-making and accreditation index maintenance, teachers were participating in decision-making at the middle level or above, with goal/vision/mission getting the highest participation, followed by curricula/training, improvement in procedure and operation, operation, working regulations, teachers' training, teacher positioning, and budget; as for accreditation index maintenance, health and nutrition was best maintained, followed by safety, operation and management, interaction, cooperation with family and community, and child-care environment, showing more than average levels of index maintenance as a whole.
Second, as for differences in participation in decision-making and accreditation index maintenance by the size and type of centers and by teachers' academic background and teaching career, better decision-making could be found in medium-sized centers participated more in decision-making than in big- or small-sized ones; there was no difference in participation in decision-making and accreditation index maintenance by the type of centers or by teachers' academic background and teaching career.
Third, as for accreditation index maintenance by teachers' participation in decision-making, the group of middle level of participation in decision-making or above was found to have better accreditation index maintenance.
Fourth, as for correlation between participation in decision-making and accreditation index maintenance, cooperation with family and community, was best maintained in all sub-areas of teachers' decision-making.
