Abstract
The purposes of this study were to investigate the of career decision-making group counseling on career decision disorder and career behavior activity of vocational high school students. The hypotheses for this study were first, career decision disorder levels in an experimental group participating in the career decision-making group counseling would be decreased more than that of the control group. Second, career behavior activity of the experimental group would be enhanced more than that of the control group.
The subjects for the study were 30 fifth grade students who were attending E vocational high school in Daegu city, Korea and agreed to participate in the study by understanding the contents and purposes of the career decision-making program. After measuring the level of career decision disorder and career behavior activity, they were assigned into groups, experimental group(n=15) and controlled group(n=15), on random base. The program has been carried out on the experimental group by sixteen sessions of 90 minutes once a week from December 2008.
The instruments for measuring career decision disorder and career behavior activity were used in the study. For the test tool to measure career decision disorder which was originally designed by Gati, Krausz and Osipow(1996) and producted by Prak Sung Mi(2004) was used. For the career behavior activity, Park Wan Sung(2002) was used. For comparing the difference in career decision disorder and career behavior activity between experimental and control groups, analysis of data was applicable to Mean, Standard deviation, and Covariance (ANCOVA) was also carried out to determine the significance.
The results of this study were first, the level of the career decision disorder of the experimental group was lower than that of the control group among the high school students. It showed a remarkable effect in the part of the lack of motivation, the lack of career information and the mental burden. Second, the career behavior activity of the experimental group was higher than that of the control group. It showed distinctive effects in the part of career exploration, information acquisition, and job experience, But employment preparation change in the part of the task difficulty.
Therefore, more programs related to career should be developed for vocational high school students with career decision disorder and career behavior activity. And much more researches are needed in proving the effectiveness of the program other than the scales of career decision disorder and career behavior activity.
