빈칸 메우기 방법을 활용한 어휘 지도 방안 : 초등학교 3학년을 대상으로 = (A)Study on the method of vocabulary improvement through cloze procedure

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 초등학교 3학년을 대상으로 빈칸 메우기 방법을 활용하여 어휘력을 신장시키는 데 그 목적이 있다.
제7차 교육과정 국어과의 교육목표는 창조적 국어사용 능력 향상이며, 이를 달성하려면 지속적이고 체계적인 어휘 교육이 반드시 필요하다. 그러나 어휘 교육의 중요성과 필요성에서 불구하고 학교 현장에서 어휘 교육은 소홀히 다뤄지고 있다. 따라서 현장에서의 어휘 지도에 대한 구체적인 방법 모색이 반드시 필요한 실정이다.
이 연구는 다음과 같은 절차로 진행되었다. 먼저, 어휘량의 연간 증가율이 가장 높은 시기인 초등학교 3학년생을 대상으로 지도 대상 어휘를 선정하였다. 그리고 빈칸 메우기 방법을 활용한 어휘 지도 방안을 고안하여 적용하고서 실험 결과를 분석하였다.
이 논문의 제Ⅱ장에서는 어휘와 어휘력의 개념, 어휘 지도의 목표를 알아보고 이를 토대로 어휘 선정 기준과 어휘 지도의 방향을 설정하였다. 그리고 앞의 논의를 바탕으로 어휘 선정 기준에 따라 3학년 1학기 읽기 교과서에 나타난 어휘를 분석 및 추출하였다. 이어서 본 연구의 핵심이라고 할 수 있는 빈칸 메우기 방법의 개념과 활용 방안, 빈칸 메우기 방법과 어휘력과의 연관성을 살펴보고, 이를 토대로 빈칸 메우기 방법을 활용한 어휘 지도 모형을 개발하였다.
어휘 지도 절차는 ‘빈칸 메우기→ 생각 나누기→ 정답 확인하기→ 뜻 깨치기→ 짧은 글짓기(뜻 굳히기)’의 5단계로 이루어지며 이 단계는 어휘의 의미 학습을 위한 필수 요소들을 두루 갖추도록 고안하였다.
제Ⅲ장에서는 빈칸 메우기 방법을 활용한 어휘 지도 방법을 실제로 적용하고 그 결과를 분석하여 서술하였다. 어휘력 측정 검사 분석 결과, 본 연구자가 고안한 방법으로 지도한 어휘에 대한 이해 능력과 활용 능력이 모두 향상된 것을 알 수 있었다. 특히 어휘력 수준이 낮은 학습자들은 빈칸 메우기를 통해 학습한 어휘의 이해 능력과 활용 능력뿐 아니라 전반적인 어휘력까지 향상된 것으로 나타났다.
또, 어휘력 설문 검사 결과 학습자 대다수가 스스로 어휘를 이해하고 활용하는 능력이 향상되었다고 평가하였으며, 어휘에 대한 관심과 국어 공부에 대한 자신감이 높아졌다고 답하였다. 특히 재미있는 단어 공부 학습지를 해결하는 것이 재미있었고 본 연구에서 시행한 프로그램을 통해 새로 알게 된 낱말이 많아졌다고 응답한 인원이 과반수에 달해, 쉽고 재미있게 낱말을 가르치고자 했던 소기의 목적을 달성했다고 생각한다.
따라서 이 연구는 빈칸 메우기를 통해 효과적으로 어휘의 의미를 이해하고 새로 배운 어휘를 활용할 수 있게 하며, 어휘 학습에 대한 흥미를 한층 높인 데에서 그 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This thesis serves to study 3rd grade elementary school students enriching their vocabulary through Cloze Procedure.
The Korean language curriculum in elementary schools aims to develop the ability of creative use of Korean, Continuous and systematic vocabulary education is essential in achieving this goal. Unfortunately, however, the current korean curriculum is somewhat insufficient in vocabulary education for the students. This matter must be settled without delay, seeking for appropriate and effective teaching methods for vocabulary education.
This research was conducted by picking out target vocabulary from a text book for 3rd graders who are at their peak in terms of learning new vocabulary, then providing a teaching method for vocabulary education using Cloze procedure.
First of all, Chapter Ⅱ introduces theoretical background of vocabulary education and Cloze procedure by looking through the concept of vocabulary, vocabulary education's goal and the concept of Cloze procedure, the relations between Cloze procedure and vocabulary. It has formed the basis of selecting target vocabulary and designing the model of teaching method for vocabulary education using Cloze procedure.
This model is incorporated with five steps of 'Filling in the blanks → Discussing → Checking the correct answers → Writing short compositions', and includes all the necessary elements for effective vocabulary education.
Chapter Ⅲ provides actual teaching methods using Cloze procedure and an analysis of the results. The results of the vocabulary test were that the new method using Cloze procedure was effective at improving vocabulary, both in terms of understanding and applying of vocabulary.
Also, It was discovered that the new method had various positive effects as to learning new words by guessing the meaning through the words placed before and after in the sentence. The students who participated in this research showed increased interest, as well as confidence, in their vocabularies after applying the new teaching methods studied. Furthermore students had fun studying because of hints such as consonants, or number of letters existing in blank.
Thus this research finds that the new method for vocabulary education using Cloze procedure accomplished its purpose of improving the student's vocabulary.
