(Abstract)
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of rhythmic ensemble activity on children's self-regulation.
30 subjects were sampled from 4 year-old children. they were randomly assigned into the two groups, the experimental group (n=15) and the control group (n=15). The experimental group received rhythmic ensemble activity for six weeks.
To measure the changes in self-regulative ability, Self-Regulation Rating Scale(SRRS) was given to both groups before and after the treatment. The subfactor of scale's reliability was as follows: self-regulative ability was .88, impulsivity was .90, and attention concentration was .86.
The data was subjected to ANCOVA procedure in SPSS 17.0. The results were as follows:
First, The experiment group earned higher mean score in self-control scale than the control group. That is, children's self control ability was more improved the experiment group than control group.
Second, the experiment group showed substantially lower score in impulsivity scale than the control group. It means that children's Impulsivity was reduced through rhythmic ensemble activity conducted to the experiment group.
Third, the result showed that there were statistically significant difference in the results of children's attention concentration between the experiment group and the control group. It means that children's attention concentration was improved through rhythmic ensemble activity conducted to the experiment group.
