In this study, we examined the differences between certain general tendency and variables of background about the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion and their infants' self-controlling ability and social competence. Also, we took a look at the variables of background for the infants' social competence, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion and relative influence of the infants' self-controlling ability.
The subjects of this study are the mothers of 4, 5 and 6 years old infants, and 24 instructors in charge from 2 kindergartens and 6 nurseries located in Gwangju Metropolitan City. Among the researched papers, 210 copies of the researched papers were used for this study except for the mothers' writing omitted papers and the coupling with the instructors excluded papers. Analysis of frequency and percentage was rated to understand the variables of background for the subjects, and Cronbach's α coefficient' was rated to examine the reliability of the test means from the collected data. We computed the average and standard deviation to look into the common tendency about the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, their infants' self-controlling ability and social competence. besides, we performed 'T-test' and 'one way ANOVA' to examine the relationship among the variables of background, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, their infants' self-controlling ability and social competence. For the follow-up, we performed multi-comparison & verification between Scheffe' and Duncan. To examine the variables of background for the infants' social competence, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion and relative effect for the expression of their infants' emotion, we analyzed the hierarchical regression analysis after computing Pearson product moment correlation coefficient to examine the relationship among the variables of background, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, the relative influence of the infants' self-controlling ability.
The result of this study is presented as next.
First, from the result of examining the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, the infants' self-controlling ability and common tendency of the infants' social competence. For the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion, the mothers had much tendency to accept the expression of their infants' fear more than that of their infants' sorrow and anger. From the result of examining the infants' self-controlling by sub-causes, the infants showed the best controlling ability at self-estimation and next are emotion, prohibition of behavior and self-determination. For the common tendency of infants' social competence, ability showed the best cause, and instability and leadership are following the next.
Second, from the result of examining the difference in the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion according to the variables of background (sex, age, simulated age, simulated scholarship, simulated occupation, economic level), certain meaningful difference for only the infants' age were shown at the attitude of mothers' acceptance. Namely, the younger the infants are, the more acceptable the mothers' attitude about the emotional expression for the fear.
Third, from the result of examining the difference for the infants' self-controlling ability according to the variable of background, there's a meaningful difference in only sex and age. In other words, as the infants grow, female infants seemto show higher self-controlling ability than male infants according to their age among the sub-causes of self-controlling ability except for emotional factor.
Fourth, from the result of examining the infants' social competence accordingto their variables of background, there's statistically meaningful difference in only sex and age. There was a meaningful difference in the ability among the sub-causes and in the ability among the ability of whole the social and sub-causes.
Fifth, from the result of examining the difference in the self-controlling ability among the groups, classifying the sub-area of the attitude for mothers' acceptance into high, middle and low group, there was statistically meaningful difference in the inhibition of behavior, emotional factor and full self-controlling ability except for the self-estimation and self-determination. Also, from the result of examining the difference between the attitudes of mothers' acceptance, classifying their attitude into high, middle and low level, and the infants' social competence, there was no difference among the sub-causes.
Sixth, from the result of examining the difference in the social competence, classifying the low area of self-controlling ability into high, middle and low group, there was certain meaningful difference among the self-estimation, self-determination and emotional factor from the ability, leadership and full social competence. For the behavior inhibition, there was certain meaningful difference in the ability and no meaningful difference in the ability from the leadership, instability and full social competence.
Seventh, the most explainable variable for the infants' social competence showed self-controlling variable, background variable and the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the expression of their infants' emotion in order. Besides, when examining the influence of individual variables for the infants' social competence, certain meaningful influence presented from the self-estimation, the attitude of mothers' acceptance for the infants' social competence and age in order.
In this study, we examined the important variables that influenced on the infants' social competence and lighted up the relative influence to provide certain rudimentary data enhancing the infants' social competence.
