This study has two purposes of Elderly Job Program(EJP) which has been in operation last five years, with the attempt to make EJP contribute to improvement in the quality of life beyond quantitative growth.
First, this study intends to set up the mediator that can explain the change of outcome variables more specifically and intends to verify the effect, in analyzing the effect of EJP on life satisfaction. For this, I set up self-efficacy which is a personal psychological factor as the mediator. Second, From this study results, EJP activation plans to strengthen self-efficacy and life satisfaction are proposed.
For this, the survey of the elderly who currently participate in EJP in Gangwon province was carried out using the questionnaire that people fill out by themselves with the help of staff of administrative agency. I ultimately used 310 copies out of 340 collected copies of the questionnaire for this study. Utilizing SPSS 12.0 statistics package with collected data, frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation analysis, one-way ANOVA, multiple regress analysis, and mediation effects according to Baron & Kenny's method were verified. Out of control variables, sex, age, presence or absence of spouse, education standards are included for this analysis.
The result of this study is as follows. First, as the result of estimating program-typal participation characteristics, self-efficacy, and life satisfaction, the estimates were highest in education type and welfare type, and were lowest in public service type. And there were meaningful differences between them. This result means that we have to increase education and welfare type-oriented job openings when we begin new job programs in the future, and also means that these programs' characteristics should be able to affect other types.
Second, the estimates of participation characteristics' influence on self-efficacy showed that participation recognition and participation level except participation attitude had a meaningful influence on self-efficacy and participation recognition had the most influence. In other words, rather than participation level or participation attitude, the higher participation recognition is, the higher self-efficacy is.
Third, in the part of self-efficacy's influence on life satisfaction, self-confidence and self-regulated efficacy except preference of subject difficulty which is subordinate had meaningful influence on life satisfaction, and self-regulated efficacy was the most influential. Namely, rather than self-confidence and preference of subject difficulty, the higher recognition level of self-regulated efficacy is, the higher life satisfaction is.
Fourth, in the part of participation characteristics' influence on life satisfaction, all participation characteristics factors had meaningful influence on life satisfaction, and participation recognition was the most influential. That is, rather than participation level or participation attitude, the higher participation recognition is, the higher life satisfaction is.
Fifth, mediation effect analysis of self-efficacy according to Baron & Kenny's method had no perfect mediation effect indicating that all levels were effective. But 3 score of level 3 became smaller than 2 score of level 2 indicating its role of partial mediation effects.
This result shows that the mediator such as self-efficacy has an important effect on life satisfaction of the elderly who participate in EJP. Also it shows that later it needs to be done the study to set up mediator other than self-efficacy from various points of view and to verify its effect. On the other hand, we have to lead EJP in education type and welfare type, and we need to enhance work recognition and self-efficacy.
Therefore, we intend to activate EJP by making various EJP to strengthen self-efficacy and by proposing improvement plans in work environment and working conditions, education programs, and private sector's support plans.
