40 kindergartens were selected from public and private kindergartens located in Gyeongsangnam-do for this study by random sampling, and I surveyed 150 of teachers of those kindergartens and 150 of parents of those children. I used reconstituted questionnaire based on leading study(Jisang Kim, 2006; Seonmi Park, 2004; Hyeonsuk Kim, 2003; Seonmi Choi, 2002; Changsuk Gang, 2002;
Huigyeong Chae, 2002; Jeongja Kim, 2001) for teachers and parents as the research tool. For the data analyzing, questionnaires for teachers and parents were analyzed by SPSS 14.0 and were conducted by Chi-square test(x2-test) with independent variable.
The results of the study are as follows.
The first, kindergarten conducted sex education to foster the attitude of understanding and respecting the role and the characteristic of male and female. And operation frequency was most 3~4 times. At the most case, teachers used children’s language at first and gradually used precise words during the sex education. And the most question to teachers was about the birth, and the most experience of children was touching their genitalia. The ubiquitous method of sex education was talking or telling a nursery tale. And tutors have difficulty of sex education because of lack of teaching materials. Just one third teachers had teacher training experiences for sex educations, and 95.2% teachers answered that they need teacher training for sex education. And evaluation of sex education did conduct well.
The second, at home, they did sex education to foster the attitude of understanding and respecting the role and the characteristic of male and female. And most operate 1~2 times. Parents used suitable children’s language for child during the sex education. Most question is about the birth, and children mostly experienced touching their genitalia. Parents had difficulties because they don’t know how and what to teach. And if they have chance, they wanted to take training about sex education.
The third, the biggest difficulty of sex education of teachers is lack of teaching materials, yet the parents’ one is they don’t know how and what to teach. And in case of sexual works, tutors used precise words from beginning, yet parents mostly used suitable children’s language. The content, which kindergarten used more often than parents, was the sexual assault.
