The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship among dietary habit, dietary preference and features of personality in university students of Gyeongnam and to contribute to nutrition education and consultant.
The results of analysis in this study are like followings:
Research subjects were 49.6% of male students(139 persons) and 50.4% of female students(141 persons). The age was '20~21 year-old', '24~25 year- old', 'over 26 year-old', '22~23 year-old', 'under 19 year-old' in order, and the condition of the residence was 'private residence' and 'self-boarding' in order, and monthly income of a home was '2,500,000~3,500,000 Won', '1,500,000~2,500,000 Won', 'over 3,500,000 Won' and 'under 1,500,000 Won' in order. Monthly average allowance was shown as '200,000~290,000 Won', '100,000~190,000 Won' and '300,000~390,000 Won' in order, food cost ratio among allowance was 'under 40~60%' and 'under 20 ~40%' in order, educational level of parents was 'a high school graduate' and 'graduation from a university' in order. In the occupation of parents, 'self-employed' was the highest in the case of father and 'a housewife' was the highest in the case of mother.
In the number of types of personality, 'the type of organ' was the highest, and then 'the type of head' and 'the type of breast' were followed. In living attitude, if drinking or not showed 'sometimes drink' as the highest answer, and types of alcohol were 'soju' and 'beer' in order. In if exercise or not, 'do not exercise' was the highest, and the reasons why they did not exercise were 'annoying' 'non being the practice' and 'lack of time' in order.
According to the result of eating behavior about the regularity of mealtime in each meal, female students showed; in the type of organ, that the lunch was 'regular' was the highest, while in the type of head, that mealtime was irregular was the highest, so that they showed significant difference. In frequency of meal in a week, male students showed; the type of organ represented significantly high ratio in 'eat the dinner everyday' and 'eat the dinner 5~ 6 times a week'. In the degree of appetite, the type of breast in both male and female students showed the item of 'nothing of appetite' was significantly high. In the frequency of overeating, female students showed significant difference; the type of head had higher frequency of overeating than the type of breast and organ. In the frequency of a snack, male students showed significant difference; the type of organ had higher frequency of a snack than the type of breast and head. In the reasons why they eat a snack, female students showed significant difference; in the type of head, 'the momentary impulse' was the highest, and in the type of breast, 'because of hungry' was the highest.
In dietary habit, total score of dietary habit on all types of both the male and the female did not have significant difference.
In the self-efficacy, total score of self-efficacy on all types of both the male and the female did not show significant difference, but the type of head in both the male and the female was significantly high in a item of 'I can find my favorite exercise'. Female students showed significant difference in three items; the type of breast showed the highest self-efficacy in 'I can restrain myself from eating midnight snack', the type of breast showed the highest self-efficacy in 'I can do invest time anytime in a day for light exercise' and the type of head showed the highest self-efficacy in 'I can find my favorite exercise'.
In nutrition knowledge, total score of nutrition knowledge on all types of both the male and the female showed the type of organ represented the highest score, but it did not show significant difference.
In the dietary preference, the type of head in male students was significantly the highest in the kinds of rice cake, the type of head in female students was significantly the highest in white vegetables, and the type of breast in both male and female students was significantly the highest in kinds of confectionary. The type of head in both male and female students showed the highest dietary preference in a salad, hot foods and sour foods, and it did not show significant difference.
In the correlation among dietary habit, self-efficacy and nutrition knowledge, higher self-efficacy was, better dietary habit was, and it showed statistically significant positive correlation.
The results of this study had significant difference in several items, but most items did not show large difference in dietary habit, dietary preference and features of personality. In the future study, expansion of research range and continuous study will be required to reveal the relationship between dietary habit and features of personality.
