무용 작품의 영상 미디어 활용 효과에 관한 연구

Various phenomena such as convergence of expression media in multimedia environment, integration of genres accompanying to this, destruction of types, and meeting between arts and science are intertwined and are making a huge convolution. Dance in under the culture of modern society, scientific technologies are progressing into state-of-the-art development and utilized in a variety.
Therefore, as it is expected that convergence of image media and arts will play an important role in the development of arts in the future and to maximize the effects of its function, these efforts suggest possibility of development into new arts fields to achieve maximization and diversification of expression. However, since people can expect that there are multi aspects of merits and demerits in the background of utilizing image media. It will firmly settle its position with academic foundation for the development of dance technology and will go far toward development of dance arts.
This research examines concept and development process of image media by recognizing the importance of image media which is expanding its field day by day and reviewed image media in arts by dividing into modern arts and performance arts. Under this prerequisite, it explains in what styles of changes and how did introduction and utilization of image media in dance develop in the past and kinds and characteristics of image media utilized in dance performance. Concurrently, the purpose of this research is to suggest theoretical foundation, so that pursue of maximization of expression according to utilization of image media in dance performance can be activated further in the future in the current dance world by examining utilization effects of works composed of convergence of image media and dance in visual and spatial aspects.
Out come of researches above will be described in following paragraphs.
First, it is discovered that utilization effects of image media revealed in visual aspects of dance performances have added reality of works and it was composed as we can note in a single glance what dance composers intended to express. It was found out that fast changes of scenes and adjustment of time could deliver the nature of tension and feeling of real places effectively.
In「Paradise」, visual effects hallucinating to be real in image were created through harmony of actions without boundary between animal or people and actual dancers by creating new images and effects using collage technique attaching in mixture of various materials on video images. In「Vivisector」, surfaces of dancers were expressed in diverse and sure expression with variation in media with various expressions by using video where it becomes one with physical body. In「Double Vision」, various holograms and laser images became more alive in more three dimensional and delicateness and by projecting computer graphic screen on projection screen, visual effects and creative expression like movies and surrealism images were expressed.
Second, utilization effects of image media depicted in dance performance in spatial aspect made it possible to adjust scope of utilization space and by expanding stage space more fluidly and actively, it was noted that they became heroes/heroines in performance by taking a role of not only free expression but also of main roles in performance and performance for showing characteristics of image media was also possible.
In「Paradise」, level of utilization of space was increased by installing the screen up to utmost top part of stage space and broad area of movement was provided by using three dimensional space in image. In「Vivisector」, changes were noted that spatial concept by the utilization of image media was contracted into physical body of dancers accommodating images. In「Double Vision」, changes of expansion of concept of space were appeared by forming splendid dynamic stage space composed of three dimensional cubic space and by using video images as the background, virtual space composed of computer graphic together with compound image composition have provided effects of movement of space.
As examined in the above, it was found out that effects in visual and spatial aspects were changes and appeared in a variety by the utilization of image medias. However, there are worries and concerns that it will rather hinder to have surplus of exploration of inside and visual exploration of feeling of dance composers if images armored with state-of-the-art technologies and afterimage of image become too big. Therefore, dance performances conducted in consideration of ability of dancers accommodating overall challenges of image media and feeling and atmospheres image media itself provides will contribute to development of image of new dances and can maximize uniqueness in methods of dance composition.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

멀티미디어 환경에서 표현수단의 융합과, 이에 수반되는 장르의 통합, 형식의 파괴, 예술과 과학과의 만남 등 다양한 현상들이 서로 맞물려 거대한 소용돌이를 일으키고 있다. 이러한 현대사회의 문화 속에서 무용 또한 날로 첨단화되어 가는 과학기술을 다각적으로 활용하게 되었다.
따라서 영상 미디어와 예술의 결합은 앞으로 예술 발전에 중요한 역할을 담당하며 그 기능의 효과를 최대화하고 이러한 노력은 표현성의 극대화 및 다변화를 이룰 수 있는 새로운 예술 영역으로 그 발전 가능성이 제기되고 있다. 그러나 영상 미디어 활용에는 장·단점의 양면성을 지닐 것으로 예상할 수 있기에 이를 파악하고 살피는 것은 무용인들에게 필요한 연구과제가 될 것이며, 무용 테크놀로지의 학문적 토대와 무용예술의 발전에 기여할 것이다.
본 연구는 날로 그 영역이 확대되고 있는 영상 미디어의 중요성을 인식하여 영상 미디어의 개념과 발전과정을 알아보고 예술에서의 영상 미디어를 현대미술과 공연예술로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이를 전제로 무용에서의 영상 미디어 도입과 활용이 어떠한 변화양상을 띄고 발전되어 왔는지를 설명하고 무용 공연에 활용되는 영상 미디어의 종류 및 특성을 알아보았다. 이와 동시에 영상 미디어와 무용의 결합으로 이루어진 작품의 활용효과를 시각적, 공간적 측면에서 고찰하여 향후 무용 공연에서의 영상 미디어 활용에 따른 표현의 극대화 추구가 현 무용계에서 더욱 활발히 이루어 질 수 있도록 그 이론적 토대를 제시하는데 목적이 있다.
이상의 연구결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 시각적 측면에서의 무용공연에 나타난 영상 미디어 활용 효과는 작품의 리얼리티를 더하여 주고 안무가가 표현하고자 하는 것을 한 눈에 알아볼 수 있도록 구성됨을 알 수 있었다. 빠른 장면의 전환과 시간조절은 긴장감과 현장감을 효과적으로 전달할 수 있게 됨을 알 수 있었다.
「Paradise」에서는 비디오 영상에 다양한 소재를 섞어 붙인 콜라주기법을 이용하여 새로운 이미지와 효과를 만들어내고 영상 속의 동물이나 사람과 실재 무용수와의 경계 없는 움직임의 조화는 영상이 실재인 듯 착각하게 하는 시각적 효과를 창출했다.「Vivisector」에서는 몸과 일체가 되는 비디오를 사용하여 무용수의 표면이 여러 가지 표현의 매체로 변용되어 다양하고 확실한 표현을 하였다.「Double Vision」에서는 다양한 홀로그램과 레이저 영상이 보다 입체적이고 정교해져 생동감 있게 되었고 컴퓨터그래픽 화면을 프로젝션 스크린에 투사함으로 영화와 같은 시각적 효과와 창조적인 표현, 초현실적인 이미지를 표현하였다.
둘째, 공간적 측면에서의 무용 공연에 나타난 영상 미디어 활용 효과는 활용공간의 범위를 조절하는 것을 가능하게 하고, 무대공간을 유동적이고 활동적으로 확장시킴으로 자유로운 표현뿐 아니라 공연에 있어서 주된 역할을 담당하여 공연에서의 주인공이 되기도 하고, 영상 미디어의 특성을 보여주기 위한 공연도 가능하게 됨을 볼 수 있었다.
「Paradise」에서는 스크린을 무대공간의 가장 윗부분까지 설치하여 공간 활용도를 높이고, 영상에서 삼차원의 공간을 사용함으로서 움직임의 광범위한 영역을 제공하였다.「Vivisector」에서는 영상 미디어 활용에 의한 공간적 개념이 영상을 받아내는 무용수의 신체로 축소되는 변화를 볼 수 있었다.「Double Vision」에서는 3차원의 입체공간으로 형성된 화려한 동적인 무대공간을 형성하여 공간개념이 확장하는 변화가 나타났고 비디오 영상을 배경에 사용함으로서 복합적인 영상합성과 함께 컴퓨터 그래픽으로 만들어진 가상의 공간은 공간이동의 효과를 주었다.
이상에서 살펴보았듯이 영상 미디어의 활용으로 인해 시각적 측면과 공간적 측면에서 그 효과가 다양하게 변화되어 나타남을 볼 수 있었다. 하지만 첨단 테크놀로지로 무장한 이미지와 영상의 잔상이 너무 크게 되면, 오히려 안무가의 내면의 탐구, 감정의 시각적 탐구의 여지를 남기는 것을 방해한다. 따라서 영상 미디어의 전면적인 도전을 수용하는 무용수의 능력과 영상 미디어 그 자체가 주는 느낌과 분위기를 적절히 고려하여 활용된 무용공연은 새로운 무용의 이미지 개발에 기여하고 안무 방법에 있어서는 독창성을 극대화시킬 수 있다.
