In modern times, people should realize that there exists a distinction of gender but no radical discrimination between men and women as a human being. Gender egalitarianism is the attitude to try to have men and women's equal lives with casting away gender prejudices and eliminating gender discrimination in every part of our society.
The research hypothesis of this study, therefore, was formulated as follows: 'the Gender Equality Education Program would have an effect on the gender egalitarianism of specialized high school girls.' It is based on the premise that the improvement of their gender egalitarianism is essential to the active choices of their future career.
Two groups were made to examine the hypothesis. Both experimental and control group were of 15 members respectively, which were selected from one girls' specialized high school located in Choongchungnam-Do. The experimental group took the program once a week for 5 weeks, 5 times in total. This study implemented 5 sessions group counsel program adjusted for specialized high school girls. The research used as the measurement tool the Korean Gender Egalitarian Scale for Adolescents (KGES-A) developed by the Korean Women's Development Institute and processed the result data by way of t-test.
Through this research, it is resulted that the experimental group showed a significant improvement in gender egalitarianism as compared with the control one, specifically in the areas of domestic, school, socio-cultural, vocational lives.
Based on the above findings, the study products the following implications. First, continuous gender equality education needs to be received to boost our gender egalitarianism. Secondly, we should try to have our students brought up without any sex discriminative bias or distorted gender identity. Thirdly, a professional training with gender equality education should be systematically carried out from a primary school to a secondary school to form an appropriate professional mind.
These implications leads several proposals for any follow-up studies. One is the need of gender equality education guidelines in every part of our life and of gender equality attainment through developing and applying more gender equality education and program. Another is that the gender equality attitudes of teachers, counselors, officials and authorities related to education should be stiffened and the way to realize gender egalitarianism in every educational part should be devised by upcoming studies. The other can be said that the various short-term programs of gender equality education should be developed to realistically apply to each form of schools and in variety of each subject and that the spread of the developed programs is also necessary to be promoted.
