The purpose of this research is to define how parents’ child rearing attitude and development of children’s sociability are related.
Towards this end, the following research questions were selected.
1. What is the relationship between parents’ child rearing attitude and development of children’s sociability?
2. What is the relationship with the development of children’s sociability following the degree of correspondence with the parents’ child rearing attitude?
3. What is the child rearing attitude following parents’ background?
In order to attain this purpose, this study implemented two kinds of qestionnaires to 300 children and their parents. The data collected were processed by Pearson's correlation coefficients and T-test, F-test statistics using SPSSWIN program.
When the results are drawn out centered on this research’s results, they are as follows.
First, affectionate attitude and controlling attitude among fathers’ child rearing attitudes are almost not related to the ability to understand others among the children’s sociability, while there is very close correlation with the ability to cooperate with others, independence, interaction with peers and all of the sociability. In particular, hostile attitude assumes very negative correlation with the children’s sociability.
As for the mothers’ child rearing attitude, it is possible to see that it manifests high correlation with the children’s sociability on a statistically significant level. Like the fathers, mothers’ hostile child rearing attitude assumes very negative correlation when it comes to the development of children’s sociability.
Second, fathers’ child rearing attitude influences children’s sociability. In particular, ability to cooperate with others and independence are higher among the children of the democratic fathers compared to the children of authoritative fathers’ child rearing attitude.
As for the authoritative mothers’ child rearing attitude, children’s sociability develops the lowest, while ability to cooperate with others and ability to understand others of overprotected children are very closely correlated. As for the democratic type, there is close correlation between independence and sociability development. Compared to fathers’ child rearing attitude, mothers’ child rearing attitude significantly affects children’s sociability.
Third, there is almost no correlation between parents’ child rearing attitude’s correspondence and non-correspondence when it comes to the development of children’s sociability perceived by the fathers and mothers.
Fourth, there is almost no change in the child rearing attitude following parents’ personal background. However, as fathers’ education level is higher, it can be referred to as independent child rearing attitude. In case of mothers, there is no difference following other variables, and independent attitude among the mothers who are specialists is higher compared to the mothers who are company employees. When these research results are integrated, independent attitude among the mothers who are specialists is higher compared to the mothers who are company employees. Given these research results, independent child rearing attitude is higher among the mothers who are specialists.
