The purpose of this study is to examine the influence of career barriers and career self-efficacy on the career preparation behavior of university students’. Added to this, this study is to provide fundamental data in building up the universtity students' career guidance or counseling program. Based on the past study results related to the university students' career barriers as a independence variable and career decision-making self-efficacy as parameter are set up, its influence to university students' career preparation behavior are analyzed.
In order to solve the above-mentioned purpose, the following hypotheses were set up.
First, career self-efficacy will be significantly predicted by sub-factors of career barriers(Hypothesis 1).
Second, career preparation behavior will be singificantly predicted by career barriersthere(Hypothesis 2).
Third, career preparation will be singificantly prodicted by career self-efficacy(Hypothesis 3).
This study utilized SPSS/WIN 14.0 program to manage the data of 255 questionaries finally obtained from Kongju National University students'.
Measured tools are as follows; Career preparation inventory has been utilized in this study for career preparation behavior, developed by Bong-hwan Kim(1997) and added 2 questions by Hyung-gyun Kim(2002). Korean Career Barrier Inventory(KCBI) has been utilized in this study for career barriers, developed by Eun-young Kim(2001). Career self-efficacy shorthand measurement has been utilized in this study for career self-efficacy, made up by Betz and Voyten(1997), adapted by Enu-jin Lee(2001)
The result of this study were summarized as follows :
First, there were significant correlation between career barriers and career self-efficacy(R=.68). Lack of job information among the sub-factors of career barriers had a significant correlation on the whole areas of sub-factors of career self-efficacy. Lack of interest and the difficulties of interpersonal relationship had significantly predicted almost sub-factor of career self-efficacy.
Second, there were significant correlation between career barriers and career perparation behavior(R=.44). Lack of job information among the sub-factors of career barriers had predicted most of career preparation behavior, and physical inferiority followed.
Third, there were significant correlation between career self-efficacy and career preparation behavior(R=.36). But, the sub-factors of career self-efficacy had not significantly predicted career preparation behavior.
In conclusion, the following are recommended that the factors of job information, interpersonal relationships, lack of interest had important impacts in the relationship career barriers and career self-efficacy. The career barriers which university students perceived can have positive impacts or negative impacts in their career preparation behaviors. Counselors should not just perceive the total of career barriers to the future, not only by reviewing the factors sub-factors details of the direction of the other sub-category but also by studying it.
